The Archaic And The Arcane | My Thoughts And Revelations On The ...

Skip to content The Archaic and the Arcane crazy but just a little sane

It’s possibly safe to say that I may have burned myself out a little last year.  The weirdest part is that I didn’t really see it or feel it coming.

Once the new year hit, I felt like there were a couple of small (ha!) things remaining that needed to be done before I’d feel like we’d finished making the house ours.

The first was to get that … darned… spare snow blower out of the way. Continue reading crazy but just a little sane

2025 Year End Wrap-Up – part two of two

Alright, 2025, part 2.  This is where things got a little less online, more things got finished and happily, I took less physical damage than in the first part of the year.

It seems almost like July was a hardline in the sand where Continue reading 2025 Year End Wrap-Up – part two of two

2025 Year End Wrap-Up – part one of ???

Part one of ??? Well, I have no one to blame but myself.  If I’m going to disappear for a year, it stands to reason the dozen or so shorter posts I could have written become a few longer ones.  Knowing too that people are indeed still reading makes it feel a little less like it’s busy work.  It was heartwarming this weekend to learn that this blog isn’t as dead as I thought it might be. Thank you everyone.

How about one post for each half of the year?  The draft of my dictated notes says it’s twice as long as my usual year end wrap so that sounds reasonable so far. I’m also going to do the first 50 or so days of 2026 as its own post.

So, what have I been doing all year if not spending it all on the Internet?  As per usual, I thought “Not much… other than  Continue reading 2025 Year End Wrap-Up – part one of ???

More than a year since the last post?  Where have I been and what.  the.  Heck?

So, the issue hasn’t really been that I haven’t been doing VSM stuff, or CSM or knitting or spinning or… (maybe I’ll talk about that in the Year End wrap-up that’s still on my to do list.) In fact, that output was impressive for (*checks notes*) reasons.  Today, I thought I’d talk about why I’ve been absent after thinking I might even have time to post this past year since people have been mentioning that they noticed the absence and I realized I’ve been terribly rude to just disappear.

The problem has been my absolute demoralization and disgust with my Continue reading Anybody Listening?

2024 Year End Wrap up plus a month

Happy New Year!

What a year.  If you’d told me at the beginning of the year what it would look like at the end, I’d have had a good laugh about it.  Us?  Moving? And to the country no less,  No way.  2024 was supposed to be the year I relaxed and healed up from the renos in 2023.

We had some excitement along the way too (and how!). Continue reading 2024 Year End Wrap up plus a month

A plan to get us out of there – why we moved

I mentioned in my last post that part of why we’d moved out of Morinville is that the neighbourhood and the town both were no longer a fit for us.  Back in 2005 when we moved in and had plans of staying for 5 years, it was a lovely quiet area. Perhaps that’s why we stayed longer than planned.  In the beginning, we Continue reading A plan to get us out of there – why we moved

Brick by Brick – moving in, setting it all back up, getting on with it

4 months.  It’s been nearly 4 whole months and but we’re almost finished moving.  When last I left you, it was the beginning of July and the fun was just beginning.  The conditions on our house sale and purchase both had been removed and we were about to get down to packing in earnest.  Most of it went about how you’d expect.  We felt like there was a real time crunch (and there was) so the usual Continue reading Brick by Brick – moving in, setting it all back up, getting on with it

Movin’ On

Well it’s been a minute!

We’ve been busy here since February just living life and working. I’ve also been trying to take it easy on my elbow tendons and thumb’s IPT joint. They’re all still acting up since the renos last summer.

I’ve been doing some sewing machine servicing but it takes a toll on both.  One machine takes me the better part of a day because I have to modify my grip for my thumb and the tendons burn for a couple of days afterwards.  Super fun.

So let’s see, what’s been happening? (spoiler, as usual – it’s a lot.)

a pocket full of power – of photos and computers and getting a handle on them both

I mentioned in my last post that I was doing some server work here at the house – and actually somewhat enjoying it this time around. Though truthfully, it’s likely as much about seeing things I’ve wanted to do for ages finally come about.  As of this writing, it’s about 85% complete and I’m taking a small break to write a couple of posts. As I write, data is being copied from one drive to another, so it’s sort of wasted time anyway if I don’t do anything else.

See, when it’s projects that disrupt the house or my daily procedures, I tend to get obsessed.  Shocking, I know! 8 days straight of obsession like this though and I need to reset my sleep schedule so I can go out and run errands / see clients during the day.

I’ve spent too many very long nights lately working on this and an adjacent project.  Most mornings, I go to bed around the time Ryan gets up for work but last Wednesday night, I ended up doing an accidental Continue reading a pocket full of power – of photos and computers and getting a handle on them both

2023 Year End Wrap Up

Happy belated New Year everyone!

A lot of years, it’s not until the year end wrap up that I truly understand how much I did during the previous 365.25 days.  This year even though the total yarn mileage was a bit of a shock, I was completely aware all year that I was busy.  I nearly didn’t do this post at all.

2022 ended with us knowing we were going to be redoing the shower in the bathroom.  After way too many trips to hardware stores and bathroom showrooms, we finally decided and by the end of May, that hurdle was cleared.  No more water issues in the house.  Or so I thought. Continue reading 2023 Year End Wrap Up
