What temperature should you wash your towels at? The simple answer is - check the label!

Here are our golden rules to washing any item, you need to consider 3 things:

• Material
• Usage
• Colour

Material

Regardless of the type of towel you are trying to wash, beach, body, hand etc. Most are made of cotton so can take a hot wash without causing damage or shrinkage.

Watch out - most laundry powders and many laundry pods contain bleach - if you use these too often they will damage the terrycloth.

Usage

Towels, especially body towels, are the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Things only get worse if you don't get the chance to fully dry them between uses.

For this reason we would recommend a hot wash for your towels to give yourself the best chance of getting rid of bacteria.

Colour

It's always good practice to separate colours from whites to keep your whites whiter for longer.

If you have coloured towels, conventional wisdom says run a shorter cooler wash to stop dye loss and fading of colours. The opposite being true for white towels.

Wrapping up

We recommend a hot 60 °C temperature to wash towels. Personally, I want my towels to be clean and fresh rather than looking their best, so I would recommend washing even coloured towels at this temperature.

Don’t forget, a good detergent does much of the heaving lifting during a wash.
