The Book Of Boba Fett: Where Is Rotta The Hutt?

In Chapter 2 of The Book of Boba Fett, “The Tribes of Tatooine,” we were introduced to two new Hutts being carried through the strees, a twin brother and sister who happen to be cousins of Tatooine’s former resident crime lord (not Bib Fortuna). The appearance of the Hutt twins has caused some fans to wonder: Where is Jabba’s son?

Star Wars fans were first introduced to Rotta the Hutt in The Clone Wars movie, during which Ahsoka and Anakin must return the huttlet to his father, Jabba the Hutt. You may best know him as “Stinky,” the nickname Ahsoka gave him for presumably obvious reasons.

Technically, Jabba then had at least one heir to this criminal empire that we know of. So why wasn’t Rotta the one to approach Boba in “Tribes of Tatooine” and attempt to reclaim his family’s domain? The answer may be as simple as his age.

According to Wookieepedia, Jabba was born in 600 BBY, which implies Hutts age quite differently than humans and that, similar to the species of Yoda and Grogu, this aging process happens slowly. Grogu may be 50 years old in The Mandalorian, but he still acts like a toddler. Rotta is still a baby in The Clone Wars, which means — assuming he survived the war (sorry) — he’s still very young by the time of his father’s death in Return of the Jedi.

Despite his powerful lineage, it’s unlikely Rotta would be in a position at this point in the Star Wars timeline to inherit his father’s place on the Tatooine throne. However, we’ve now seen members of his extended family on-screen, which could mean Rotta is somewhere nearby slowly growing into the strong, capable Hutt his father always believed he could become.
