The Expanse is sadly coming to an end after six explosive seasons. The Amazon Prime Video series has continued to be a major hit, enjoying a dedicated fanbase since it first premiered six years ago. The beginning of the end is near, and Express.co.uk has all the details on the saga’s finale.

What time does The Expanse season six premiere?

Following the release of season five, fans knew that the next season would be the series’ last.

While it may come as a blow, the show will be wrapping up the epic saga over the course of six grand scale episodes.

As is typical for Amazon Prime, the season will be released weekly, with the first premiering on December 10.

This means that the final episode of the show will drop on January 14, 2022.

Amazon Prime typically drops new episodes at 12am, depending on the region the viewer is watching in.

As such, for fans in the UK, expect the premiere to release at 12am GMT, whereas in the USA it will release at 12am PST.

For viewers that are new to Amazon Prime, the service is available for an annual fee of £79 ($119).

Alternatively, a monthly subscription costs £7.99 ($12.99).

What is season six of The Expanse about?

While the final season is shorter than usual, the showrunners are promising one of the most satisfying seasons yet.

With Earth and Mars now united, they have come together because of the joint threat from Marco Inaris (played by Keon Alexander) and The Belt.

The solar system is fighting over control of the ring, the vast gateway which connects humanity to the galaxy beyond -  towards countless inhabitable planets. 

After months of fighting, the crew of the Rocinante are tired and running out of options, but of course, there is always hope.

Will there be season seven?

Officially, season six is the final in the series, with Amazon Prime confirming that there will not be a continuation of the show.

However, as fans have noted, the series was saved before, with the first three seasons originally being produced by the SyFy channel.

The show is also based on the book series of the same name by author James S A Corey, of which there are nine in total, not six.

Yet, the best piece of evidence comes from the showrunner himself, Naren Shankar, who teased the potential of more to come in the future.

When asked by Entertainment Weekly on whether production company Alcon will eventually renew the show, Shankar said: “You know, honestly, that would be more of a question for our studio, for Alcon.”

Shankar added: “They control the property, but what I will say is that there's definitely more to tell and I'm sure [writers Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham] would say exactly the same thing.

“But yeah, that's probably about as much as I can say at this point.”

The Expanse season 6 will premiere on December 10 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
