The Handmaid's Tale Has Been Renewed For Season 5

The Handmaid's Tale has been renewed ahead of its season four premiere.

The dystopian drama, which is broadcast on Hulu in the US, took to Twitter on Thursday, December 10, to share a video of its cast members announcing that they're back in Canada shooting the fourth instalment.

Production on the show had previously been shut down earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"We are back," Samira Wiley and Joseph Fiennes – who play Moira and Fred Waterford, respectively – said excitedly, as June/Offred actor Elisabeth Moss teased that she was actually looking at a couple of scripts while filming the check-in.

Ann Dowd, who stars as Aunt Lydia, added: "All I can say is, 'Hold onto your seats.'"

Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, Bradley Whitford, Amanda Brugel, O.T. Fagbenle, Yvonne Strahovski and Alexis Bledel also featured.

Later in the clip, Moss went on to say that she's "also thrilled to announce that we've been picked up for a season 5. It's gonna be a wild ride."

"We're very grateful to Hulu and MGM that the show will be returning for a fifth season, and especially to our loyal fans for their support," showrunner Bruce Miller told The Hollywood Reporter.

"We are thrilled to be able to continue to tell these stories, with our incredible cast and crew, and can't wait to be back on the air with season four next year."

The Handmaid's Tale airs on Hulu in the US and Channel 4 in the UK.
