The price of honor. The power of friendship. The Karate Kid II. Ralph Macchio and Noriyuki "Pat" Morita re-create the roles that brought them international acclaim in The Karate Kid. Karate student, Daniel Larusso (Macchio), accompanies his wise and whimsical teacher, Mr. Miyagi (Morita), to his ancestral home in Okinawa. For the boy, it's a journey to an exotic new world offering new clues to his mentor's secret past. For Miyagi, it's an opportunity to see his father one last time and to rekindle a romance with his childhood sweetheart (Nobu McCarthy). But Miyagi's return also re-ignites a bitter feud with long-time enemy, Sato (Danny Kamekona) - a feud that involves young Daniel in a brilliant collision of cultures and combat. Now, far away from the tournaments, the cheering crowds and the safety of home, Daniel will face his greatest challenge ever when teacher becomes student and the price of honor is life itself.Director:John G. Rotten Tomatoes® Score

TOMATOMETER®Rotten49%Critics Consensus: Like countless sequels, The Karate Kid Part II tries upping the stakes without straying too far from formula -- and suffers diminishing returns as a result.ReviewsPreviousScreen RantBen SherlockRotten

Pat Morita shines in an expanded role as the legendary Mr. Miyagi, but The Karate Kid Part II doesn't hold a candle to its iconic predecessor.

The characters have grown and developed since the first film. The story line involves more variables, including a deeper degree of jeopardy for Daniel and Miyagi.

It’s as if the movie had turned into the most primitive kind of Western.

Makes you wish there was a law against movie sequels.

The movie sags near the end, but like Daniel in the first movie, it makes a high-kicking comeback.

Karate Kid II is a robust exception to the shabby-sequel rule.

The Karate Kid II is a better picture than its title indicated. It has warmth, intelligence and a sense of human relationships.

1748466541000FULL REVIEWThe Age (Australia)Age StaffFresh

Karate Kid II is true to the formula of the first film, and handsomely shot in Hawaii, it presents traditional Japanese notions of family loyalty and honor most attractively.

Unfortunately, however, the film is just another sequel.

The script is weak, never giving the new characters enough room to develop so we can care about them.
