The Originals: EXPLOSIVE teaser for episode nine of final season

The Originals was the successful spin-off from The Vampire Diaries which followed the characters on the next phase of their journeys. The series ran for five seasons before concluding in 2018. The series is now streaming on Netflix UK and many fans have questions about the last outing.

Will Hayley return in The Originals?

Season five saw the death of fan-favourite Hayley Marshall-Kenner (played by Phoebe Tonkin), who was killed in episode six during a battle to save her family.

In a fight against Greta Sienna (Nadine Lewington), Hayley sacrificed herself to save her daughter Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell) and former lover Klaus (Joseph Morgan).

Her death left Hope raging and will have ramifications on the rest of the series, which is a spin-off from The Vampire Diaries.

Despite getting killed off, death doesn’t mean that much in The Originals - a show where anyone can make a comeback with the right magic.

So, will fan-favourite Hayley be coming back to the show?

The short answer is yes. Before the reveal, some cast members teased Hayley would be making some sort of appearance given season five is the last-ever run of The Originals.

Actress Tonkin previously told Entertainment Weekly that fans would have to “watch and see”.

She teased: “Every season we prepare to say goodbye for good as we never know if we will come back for another season or not till very last minute, but knowing this season would be [the end], it definitely made it easier to plan wrap gifts and say proper goodbyes to my buddies who I’ve spent five years with.”

Tonkin continued: “My last scene sadly was at one in the morning, and the core cast weren’t there, nor were some of the main crew members as there were two units shooting that day, so I basically ran around the studio yelling anyone’s name so I could give as many tearful hugs and goodbyes before I left the studio for the last time.”

Also, consulting producer Jeff Lieber told TV Guide: "I don't think I'm giving anything away in saying that she is in other episodes this season, so that her death is not nearly her end.

"There's still a lot more of her story and her story with Elijah and her story as the mother of Hope to be told."

Reflecting on the decision to kill her off, he said: "It was one of those things we knew from the beginning of the season...

"So we were looking for a way to do it at a point in the season where it really resonated, where it changed all the other characters, but left us enough space to still be able to tell the rest of Hayley's story.

"So that was what was really important... Being able to do it midseason, it causes an inflection point and it causes every single other character to change in a meaningful, primal way.

"It also again gives us space in the back half to finish telling the story in a really interesting, cool way."

Hayley’s last appearance served as a fitting end to The Originals.

Hope is now taking centre stage in brand new series Legacies, which will be the new spin-off to The Originals.

Legacies has been produced by the programme-makers behind The Vampire Diaries and The Originals with the action would be focusing around her.

So the events of The Originals season five finale are likely to be integral to Legacies.

Legacies first premiered on The CW on October 25, 2018.

There was a total of 13 episodes in the final run with the show having a short break before concluding.

Following the end of The Originals, spin-off series Legacies launched on The CW.
