Jcogginsa said: Did some quick and dirty height estimations on tumblr By my reckoning, Luz is pretty tall Click to expand... Click to shrink...Probably late to the party but these quick and dirty calculations are almost certainly wrong because they're based on the percentage of someone's height their head is in real life, which is not at all the same as the percentage of their height their head is in this art style. That is to say, Eda's head is a lot more of her height in that image than it would be if she had realistic proportions, so Luz is a larger number of inches shorter. Also, that Hellboy/Owl house crossover that was recommended earlier in the thread has updated and changed its title: Hell's Boiling Point. Last edited: Nov 26, 2020

Location In my daydreams Hey guys, finally managed to find the time to get back to theoryposting, and this time I think I've come up with a rather deep analysis of a particular scene and depiction of a character that you might find interesting: Spoiler: "Long post" Its admittedly a bit of a lengthy read and kinda veers hard into a personal theory of mine in some places, but if you scroll to the very bottom to the last repost of mine, I made sure to include a truncated summary of the main ideas I wanted to convey isolated from that. Particularly about how the use of comedy and dismissal from other characters could both be used for deflection away from significant foreshadowing/details, and for setting up a potential major shift in the status quo involving our favorite bird tube Hooty and the possible lore/eventual plot developments surrounding him.Jcogginsa

Location In my daydreams Be ready to bring your questions this weekend guys for this zoom call, though while they'll be answering questions in the zoom call, don't forget that this seems like it will primarily be a panel on show running, so we'll be likely to get more professional answers about the development and the industry than like a show AMA. Either way, don't forget to set your expectations to a reasonable level, and it'll be interesting to see what answer we'll get here.Omegahugger

So the Owl House has finally started airing in Denmark, which means that at I have now seen the first six episode legally. The Danish translation is overall decent. Not as good as the original, obviously (no one but Alex Hirsch can really voice Alex Hirsch characters), but that's one of the reasons I'm a subs before dubs kinda guy. I do have one problem though, and it's not quite a minor a one. They've changed all of the names except for Adegast, Lillith, Belos and technically Augustus, and I'm not really sure why. Some of them makes sense, like Eda=>Ida or Blight=>Meldug (Mildew(Meldug) being a type of blight), and Lucia is close enough to Luz that parts of the fandom have adopted the name for Luz' beta design/theoretical older sister. Others, on the other hand, puzzle me. How on the Boiling Isles do you get "Saga" out of "Amity"? At first I looked at her and Vilja(Willow) and thought that maybe they were going for Old Norse-inspired names for the female witches, but then they kept Lillith and beffudlingly gave Boscha the name Beate (completely throwing out the Bosch reference as well) and now I'm lost. Is this something other countries are doing as well, or is this just in my neck of the woods? Our Scandinavian brothers at least seem to have kept the original names. There has to be some reason why the translators chose to do this, it's not like this is a half-hearted translation at all. They managed to accurately translate Luz' and Adegast's Quest-Question line perfectly, and that's not something easily brought over linguistic barriers! They've clearly worked hard on finding accurate and effective ways to bring a heavily English-based show to a Danish audience, and trust me when I say that no one would pull a name like "Vilja" randomly out of a bag here in Denmark. Also, this might just be a problem with Disney's website, but it seems like they're airing Escape of the Palisman as the 8th episode this Wednesday. Which, if true, might cause some confusion as to why Luz is going to a Heksehøj(Hexside) sportsgame an episode before her ban on visiting the place gets lifted. So you can colour me lowkey worried for that as well. A lot of episodes are kinda fluid in when on the timeline they take place, but those two really need to be in order. I will say this though: If you have to translate Bonesborough into Danish, Knoglekøbing is absolutely the way to do it. That name is absolutely 100% perfect 10/10 and from now on until I die I will headcanon that there's a town with that name somewhere on the BI.BossFight

So the episode En Dybere Forståelse(Understanding) af vilja(Willow) just aired, and that measn that it's time for another update on the Danish dub because I have feeling about that darn it! Now, I know you all have one burning question on your minds: Did they keep the theoretical ghost that Amity saw gender neutral? And the answer is yes. Yes they did. Which I think actually makes this the first I've seen a piece of Danish media make use of singular they (not counting using "De" as a formal "you"). So, well, congratulations Owl House! You now officially have a better Danish translation than She-Ra did. Some other points that I feel like bringing up:- In the episode Fornuft og Ufølsomhed(Sense and Insensitivity), they named Jon de Plume Søren Du Nym. Which is an obsolutely perfect name. Also, the voice actor for the lizard publisher did a pretty good job, one of the few times where I'd say the Danish voice acting works as well for the character as the original.
- In the same episode, they chose to translate "Shipping" as "Pardannelse". And NO! I REFUSE TO ACCEPT THAT TRANSLATION! This is worse than that time you translated "powercouple" as "par(couple) med(with) magt(power)". I get the general desire to avoid English loanwords when possible, BUT COME ON! I demand to get access to the Swedish and Norwegian versions of this episode, I am sure our Scandinavian brethren managed to do this better.
- By now, it's pretty clear that they are indeed generally going with Old Nordic naming scheme for the witches. It's not completely thorough, but more often than not, that's seems to be the translator's guideline. Which, incidentally, means that Jerbo is now Toke in Danish. And I don't know why, but the name just fits for me. Like, when the character designers made Jerbo they somehow made the incarnation of a bloke named Toke, and I never realised that until now.
- They're still running with changed episode numbers, meaning that Really Small Problems aired before The First Day. Which I suppose means that school was cancelled the very day Lucia(Luz) was supposed to start. Which I actually might be relatable to the actual students this actually happened to last week when some schools were supposed to reopen but were at the last minute prevented from doing so.
- While I did just praise Uglehuset for correctly keeping a sentence nongendered, I am going to deduct some points since they earlier changed Luz's "hot yet vulnerable upperclassmen" to a "guy from the higher classes". I can kinda excuse them doing similar with Willow's "crush" since we don't actually have a word for that in Danish, but I am not happy about it.
