The Real Town Behind Iron Lake From 'Dexter: New Blood'

Dexter is back. No, we didn't go back in time to 2013. Showtime recently rebooted the popular drama about a serial killer who only kills bad people, attempting to win our hearts back after a disappointing series finale. Michael C. Hall is reprising his role as the titular character. But we’re not in Miami anymore.
At the end of the eighth season, Dexter Morgan escaped with his girlfriend Hannah and his son Harrison to live a quiet life in Argentina. But Dexter quickly realized raising his son could mean passing off his murderous habits, and instead ran away to Oregon to be a lumberjack. According to Dexter: New Blood, Dexter eventually ended up in Iron Lake, New York, changed his name to Jim Lindsay, and vowed never to kill again.

There’s no need for a blood spatter analyst or detective when everyone knows everyone, and dead bodies aren’t commonplace. The new location raises the stakes for a guy who was the terror of late 2000s television. When townspeople begin to go missing, it’s only a matter of time before someone starts looking at the guy with a mysterious/unknown past.
Since the sequel series takes place in a whole new place we’ve never heard of, fans obviously want to know: is Iron Lake a real place? We have the answer, and more information about the show’s filming locations, below.
Here’s everything we know about Dexter: New Blood’s filming locations.
Is Iron Lake a real place?
No, Iron Lake is not a real place. The upstate New York small town doesn’t actually exist, but it turns out production filmed not too far from the fictional town’s supposed location.
