| Alright, I know that the title sounds misleading and makes it sound as if I'm asking for the reason for Wit Studio dropping Attack on Titan, but I'm not really too sure on how I was supposed to word the title for this thread Anyways, as the title says, this thread will basically be talking about Wit Studio and why they dropped Attack on Titan, well, I think it would be more accurate to say that it will be adding onto the reasons for Wit Studio dropping Attack on Titan. Back to what I was saying, many people have stated before that Wit Studio dropped it due to the schedule for this season, the schedule not having a lot of time in it, but I saw this thread on twitter talking about why Wit Studio was dropping AoT, and it was more than just the schedule I wanted to share this with the rest of you, and want to know your thoughts about it. Now, here is what was stated in the thread: "A vice president of a Chinese acg company post a video about the production of aot final after talking with wit, ig& mappa relevant. Huge loss and unpleasant negotiation with pony canyon made wit quit. And mappa was also cautious of the potential abuse after taking aot. He said the main reason for wit to produce aot is to make a name for bigger projects. And the cost of season 1-3 is 50% higher than the budget. Final is even more costly for the complex new designs so wit quitted even with a slightly rise of budget. The committee can actually gain a lot from the broadcasting copyright but it didn’t link much with the animation studio, the main profit for wit was Blu-ray sales, which faced a steep drop in season 2 and 3. And he also mentioned the employees of ig port faced high pressure and heavy burden to get high quality with limited budget. So mappa turned out to be the few studios that had the ability, the time and the will to face the risk of negative impact of the comment to the studio. According to what he said, mappa had said flat out to pony canyon that they had better find wit at first with the same budget but wit had an unpleasant negotiation about the budget with pony canyon so there was no turning back. | At the moment they were working on Great Pretender and Vivy Fluorite Eye's Song (both are great anime originals). Plus Aot was a big project to handle with a bad schedule so they dropped it and let other studio's decide if they wanted it nobody wanted it cuz of the bad schedule they would have to work on but Mappa picked it up and its history after that. |

Huge L from production committee's side.The budget was never the issue for AoT's production. Its the time and Production time of AoT was always shit. Some of S1's episodes were literally finished hours before its airing time. But it was shittier than ever for S4 thanks to Covid which made the already bad production even worse. Its a miracle that S4 managed to deliver the story with 8-8.5 animation. And I think its better that MAPPA is handling it as P2 have some really hard scenes to animate in all of anime which can only look good in CGI and WIT's CGI is horrible comparing to MAPPA. |
