The Reason Why Some Speculated Betty White Would Be Buried In ...

UPDATE: Betty White’s agent Jeff Witjas told ABC News that White will not be laid to rest next to her third husband in Mineral Point. Witjas did not say where the actress will be buried.

Could Wisconsin be the final resting place for beloved actress Betty White? It’s not as far-fetched as it may seem.

Betty White, who died on New Year’s Eve 17 days shy of her 100th birthday, had a decades-long career in television for which she is best known for her roles on three popular sitcoms. She appeared as Sue Ann Nivens on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” Rose Nylund on “The Golden Girls” and Elka Ostrovsky on “Hot in Cleveland.”

White was also a regular on several television game shows and had a slew of other credits to her name.

Speculation has been running rampant that White could be buried in Mineral Point, a tiny Iowa County community about 50 miles southwest of Madison. White’s third husband, Allen Luden, whom she referred to as the “love of her life,” is buried in the Graceland Cemetery in Mineral Point, his hometown, with a simple marker identifying the location.

The Allen Ludden Papers collection, donated by White, is housed in the Mineral Point Library Archives on the top floor of the Mineral Point Public Library.

Ludden, who died of stomach cancer in 1981 at the age of 63, met White on the set of “Password,” the television game show he hosted. The couple married in 1963. White didn’t remarry after Ludden’s death.

“Once you’ve had the best, who needs the rest?” White said in a 2014 interview with longtime television host Larry King. “I made two mistakes before Allen, but the love of your life doesn’t come along in every life, so I am very grateful that I found him.”

The everlasting connection between White and Ludden lends credence to thoughts that she could be buried in Mineral Point. There’s also been speculation that White will be buried in Carmel, California, where she and Ludden had a home with an ocean view that they built in 1978 and deeply treasured.

Another potential resting place for White is Oak Park, Illinois, her birthplace.

As of Monday afternoon, there was no official word about plans for White’s funeral and burial.
