Introduction

The Undertaker is an American former professional wrestler with an estimated net worth of $17 Million. He is regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.

Wrestling Career

Mark Calaway began training in 1986 and three years later joined World Championship Wrestling as a villain called Mean Mark. A year later, he signed with the World Wrestling Federation, and Vince McMahon assigned him the moniker of Kane the Undertaker. He made his debut with the WWF in November 1990 and defeated his first opponent, Mario Mancini, in a singles match. His first televised debut was on the Survivor Series event as a partner of Ted DiBiase’s Million Dollar Team.

Rise Of The Undertaker

During his TV debut, The Undertaker defeated Dusty Rhodes before he was counted out, though his team won the match overall. Shortly after the event, he dropped the “Kane” part of his moniker and became known as simply The Undertaker.

In 1991, The Undertaker made his WrestleMania debut at WrestleMania VII, marking the beginning of his first major feud with The Ultimate Warrior. During King of the Ring, Undertaker defeated Animal before fighting Sid Vicious, which ended in a double disqualification in the semifinal. He then defeated Hulk Hogan to win his first WWF Championship, becoming the youngest victor at that point, at the age of 26.

The Undertaker then headlined the debut episode of Monday Night Raw in January 1993, where he beat Damien Demento. Soon after, he feuded with Yokozuna, which culminated in a WWF Championship casket match in 1994 where Yokozuna sealed Undertaker in the casket. However, green smoke began emitting from the casket, and a video began playing that teased his “rebirth,” stating he couldn’t rest in peace.

Back In Action

After playing up his “death,” the Undertaker was absent from the WWF for seven months before making his return at WrestleMania X. Trying to find retribution, the Undertaker reignited his feud with Yokozuna and eventually faced him in another cage match. With Chuck Norris as a special guest enforcer, the two faced off, and Yokozuna was defeated by Undertaker and sealed in the casket.

After that, the Undertaker started feuding with Mankind, which culminated in a match between them at the 1996 King of the Ring. However, Bearer incapacitated Undertaker by hitting him over the head, allowing Mankind to steal the win out from under him.

They then faced off at a Buried Alive match, which the Undertaker won after choking-slamming Mankind into an open grave and burying him. Unfortunately, Undertaker was then mobbed by heel wrestlers and subsequently buried alive after kicking off his Lord of Darkness period.

A Period Of Darkness

After a month-long hiatus, The Undertaker returned with a new goth appearance and was dubbed The Lord of Darkness. While feuding with Vader, the pair fought at the Royal Rumble but were both eliminated by Stone Cold Steve Austin, who snuck into the ring.

In 1998, The Undertaker returned to feud with Austin and created the stable The Ministry of Darkness, comprising The Brood, The Acolytes, Viscera, and Mideon. He then teamed up with Big Show in The Unholy Alliance, where they won the WWF Tag Team Championship twice.

Following an injury, The Undertaker returned in 2000 as The American Badass before teaming up with Kane as the Brothers of Destruction.

In 2004, he revived his Deadman identity and defeated Randy Orton, who had received assistance from his father, at WrestleMania 21. The Undertaker then won his first Royal Rumble match in 2007, before teaming up with Batista for the World Tag Team Championship. He continued wrestling through 2014, when he was offered a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame but declined, saying it wasn’t the right time.

Final Years

After being defeated by Brock Lesnar at Hell in a Cell, they had a rematch with him and Goldberg in 2017 on Raw. He then earned his 25th WrestleMania victory before announcing his retirement on the final episode of Undertaker: The Last Ride.

In April 2022, he was officially inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and made a special appearance on the entrance stage of WrestleMania. He came back in January 2023 for the 30th Anniversary special Raw is XXX and appeared as The American Badass to confront LA Knight. Most recently, he made his first appearance on WWE NXT, where he choke-slammed Bron Breakker during the final segment of the show.

WWE Legends Contract

In April 2024, The Undertaker signed a new multiple-year Legends contract with the WWE, extending his existing contract until 2035. Under the agreement, he is signed exclusively to the WWE and cannot work with other promotions, such as AEW or NJPW. He receives income from merchandise royalties, event appearances, and appearances in video games such as WWE 2K25.

Under the WWE Legends contract, The Undertaker reportedly earns $2.5 million annually.
