The Walking Dead is now in its closing stages, and while the series has had its ups and downs, fans wouldn't necessarily associate them with the first season.

The same can't be said for The Walking Dead creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman, however, whose previous comments about the one episode he regrets have recently resurfaced.

Kirkman made the admission in an interview back in 2014, revealing that if he could scrap any episode at that time it would be the show's season one finale 'TS-19', which introduced Noah Emmerich's virologist Dr Edwin Jenner.

(Who, incidentally, re-appeared in an intriguing post-credits scene following The Walking Dead: World Beyond's season two finale.)

In the season one episode, Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes leads his group of apocalypse survivors to the Centre for Disease Control scientist's door.

Dr Jenner tells Rick a secret about the zombie virus, admitting: "It's in your blood. We're all carriers."

For Kirkman, Dr Jenner's bombshell moment "gave away too much". "If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have done the CDC episode," he said (via ComicBook.com).

"It possibly gave away too much information and was such a big change very early on in the series."

The Walking Dead boss still found the episode "fun", though. "I feel like there might have been a better way to wrap up the first season," he added.

"It ended up being a fun episode. I love the character of Dr Jenner and thought Noah did an amazing job. But there were things in that episode that I think seem very much not of The Walking Dead world."
