It's the perfect first date idea because it gets you up and moving. And as you wait for the people in front of you to finish the next hole, you can sit down and chat about your shared interests. Just try not to think too hard about the activity's twisted origins.

Today, the sport's just meant for fun, which means it shouldn't come as a surprise that it's now the center of its own television series. "Holey Moley" has aired on ABC since 2019, following some of the best mini golf players in the country to go head-to-head to see who reigns supreme over the pint-sized sport. With commentary from Rob Riggle, Joe Tessitore, and Jeannie Mai, there's plenty to hold the audience's interest even when putting isn't taking place, which is likely why it's already been renewed for Season 4 (via Deadline).

It's understandable if you think "Holey Moley" films somewhere in the Midwest, seeing how the hosts and contestants alike are always bundled up in jackets and heavy clothing. In actuality, they film the show at one of the most notable filming locations in all of Southern California — Sable Ranch in Santa Clarita. Numerous movies have filmed at this lot, including "Eternity," "Robin Hood: Men in Tights," and "The Outsider," as well as the TV series "24." The reasoning is simple: It's usually pretty warm in that area. But it still tends to get chilly when the sun goes down.

That's the reason why everyone needs their long-sleeve clothing ready to go. As anyone who's seen the show can attest, all of the action takes place at night, as explained in an interview with Rob Riggle and Joe Tessitore for Decider. The duo said, "The majority of the action that we're filming, I'd say the meat of it was from about midnight to five in the morning. It was freezing cold." Tessitore goes on to mention how they're out there filming from sometimes 7:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., literally burning the midnight oil. 

There you have it. If you want to become a contestant on the show, you better be ready to stay up past your bedtime to shoot.
