Thompson Square Postpones All Upcoming Performances And Appearances: ‘We’re Disappointed’

Grammy-nominated duo Thompson Square has made the decision to momentarily step back from their touring schedule to allow one half of the band, Shawna Thompson, the space to focus on her health. She will be using this time to prepare for her scheduled back surgery to correct complications from a recent injury.

“We’re disappointed to have to postpone some of the dates we have coming up, as we were really looking forward to connecting with fans again post-pandemic,” said Shawna’s other half, Keifer Thompson.

“That said, health is always the priority, and per doctor’s orders, Shawna will have to sit some dates out,” he continued. “We’re looking forward to her successful recovery, and being able to hit the road again soon.”

Shawna shared on social media that she’s been practicing self-care while working towards recovering and getting back out on the road.

“Trying to get healed up so I can see your beautiful faces in the crowd soon,” she said. “Thanks to everyone for the sweet thoughts and I will take all the prayers I can get.”

Fans took to the comments of the duo’s most recent Instagram post to show Shawna support and wish her a speedy recovery.

One user wrote, “Get Well Soon,” while another said, “Please get your rest and healing!”

Thompson Square had several upcoming dates set on their tour calendar, which they planned to begin on September 2 in Antioch, IL. Other cities that were scheduled for next month included Ohio, Maryland, Kentucky and Minneapolis. The band will continue to monitor Shawna’s health for now, but once she is on the mend, fans can expect to have more information regarding their adjusted schedule for the remainder of the year.

According to a recent press release, “fans that have purchased tickets for an upcoming Thompson Square event can check in with the point of purchase for further details on refunds and rescheduling.”

The husband and wife most recently released their new song, “Country in My Soul,” which draws them back to where they came from and discusses how country music is intertwined with their upbringing. This upbeat track moves them into the next chapter of their career as they reflect on the past few years of their lives and what it really means to be country.

“I got grit, I got drawl / I love Jesus and my dog / I like butter on my biscuits, and the sound of backyard crickets / Muddy water, fields of gold / It’s my heart and it’s my home / I got soul in my country, hey / I got country in my soul / Country in my soul,” the duo sing in the chorus.

Co-written alongside rising star Lainey Wilson, Daniel Ross and James McNair, this song marks Thompson Square’s first single release since 2019’s “You Shoulda Been There.”

“We really got back to our roots with the new music,” Thompson Square note. “In fact, roots is kind of what this song is all about. We’ve lived a lot of life in the last few years — we had a baby, we both lost parents — and our new music reflects a well-lived life, both the ups and the downs.”

As it continues to climb the charts, “Country in My Soul” could soon follow the success of their previous No. 1 hits like “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not” and “If I Didn’t Have You.”
