I JUST DONT SEE ANY REASON FOR TIME DELAY. IT ALLOWS ONLY OPPORTUNITY FOR A FAST PLAYER TO FREEZE THE CLOCK.
I agree, that is why I choose not to play with time increments.
WE SHOULD BAN INCREMENTS OVER 1 SECOND
Well first I would ban the use of all caps. Please.
Some people use increments so that draws can be called as such. Otherwise a fast player will run your time down and go away with the win when it should have been a draw. So there is a use for them.
As I said, you can choose not to play in games with time increments, rather than try to enforce your own personal preferences on everyone else. This way everyone is happy!
We should also ban people who abuse the Caps Lock key.
Increments are just fine, if you know how to play chess you should be able to checkmate your opponent.

WHEN YOU FREEZE THE CLOCK, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED
Everyone complains about time increments. But what about time excrements?!
As a tournament director I prefer time increment or delay, this gets rid of any chance of a player claiming insufficent losing chances and forcing me to insert my judgement in the game, The game should always be decided on the board if at all possible and between the players playing.
The introduction of clocks means that the game is not decided on the board. Time increments mean that everyone has to buy digital clocks: an added expense that I have, as yet, resisted.
The club I play in has received over the years a number of digital clocks and they all go the way of the Dodo: no one can figure out how to set them. Eventually they get thrown out.
We had a chronos. Someone mercifully spilled root beer on it and put it out of our misery.
We had a Saitek clock that only one person could set until the batteries rotted it to death.
We had this flimsy curved "simple" clock (I forget the brand but it was new about 5-6 years ago) and NO ONE could figure it out even with the instruction book.
The ancient BHBs are still going.

I am puzzled, the OP hasn't played a single game here with or without increments, but he is posting to protest about increments ?
He's registered to vent his anger about this scummy otb practice
Oh I see, so in OTB they are holding a gun on his head forcing him to play with increments.
