Tissue Paper Trees - Housing A Forest

We are always looking for fun ways to incorporate nature into craft time. We have a growing collection of sticks, rocks and pinecones by our front door, so these little trees are perfect. Love it! They are super cute and make a great Earth Day craft.

I’m excited to have Molly from The Kids Place here sharing her adorable twig trees. I recently stalked found Molly on Instagram, and fell in love with her creative kid crafts and activities. Thanks so much for sharing your tutorial with us Molly!
I am a Minnesotan wife and mother of two precious boys. My passion for kids crafting and early learning activities stems from my desire to teach my children in a way that is fun and engaging for them. Read on to find out how we made our little twig trees.
Materials Needed:
- Twigs
- Tissue Paper (we used two different shades of green)
- A Pipe Cleaner

These Twig Trees are the perfect springtime project, and would also be great for Earth Day! They are easy enough for toddlers to put together, but older children would enjoy making them as well. Before you begin, you will need to go outside and collect twigs. If the weather is nice, collecting twigs will be lots of fun for little ones!

Cut out several tissue paper squares. Mine were about 4×4 inches.
Wrap a small piece of pipe cleaner (about 1/4 of a pipe cleaner) around the middle of the twig to keep the “leaves” from sliding too far down the “tree trunk”.

Slide the tissue squares on to the twig one by one. This will be easiest if the twigs have a pointy top.
Place a piece of pipe cleaner around the top to hold the leaves on.

Crunch up all the tissue paper into a tight ball

Pull the pieces of tissue back outward to shape them to look like the top of a tree.

We put our finished trees in a small mason jars with rocks from outside, but there are many ways they could be displayed!
Enjoy!

What a fun and simple way to make trees Molly, thanks so much for sharing! I can’t wait to go on a little nature walk to collect a few sticks! Perfect timing since Earth Day is just around the corner!
