It's measures the contrations and has a number on the machine so when your having contractions it will tell you a number Advertisement | page continues belowcuteemoshannon InactiveLast edited 12-01-16I was told the external monitor numbers DO NOT measure intensity of contractions accurately, they only show if you are having them. So if it's rising and falling in little humps or big mountains, then it's picking up contractions. From previous experience though, the most painful contractions read higher, but that isn't a sure fire way to tell. It obviously also has to do with placement of the monitor. Are you monitoring at home? Because if not, ask your nurse this question and you'd probably get a much better answer. See all replies (1)
cuteemoshannon InactivePosted 12-01-16See both the humps on here? One was very subtle? The other was very big. Both contractions. Both felt the same to me really, but the monitor picked them up differently. One spiked at the top, one was more rounded. But again you should just ask your medical professional. Like not a lot of women *even 2nd/3rd/4th time moms* know what toco is.

MH84J Posted 12-01-1620s is resting, when it shows that the pressure is going up towards 50-100, that usually shows mild to strong contractions. From what I have seen/read at least. Doesn't mean a lot though if you have back labor.See all replies (2)

PengwynMama Posted 12-01-16The numbers really don't mean much... for both of my deliveries, the Toco barely registered my contractions (if at all) but they were pretty obvious to me!! My nurses just gave me a button to press every time I felt a contraction so they could monitor them that way instead.See all replies (4)
