Torque wrenches are used in a wide range of industries like aviation, offshore, nuclear, (process)industry and the maritime industry. The calibration of torque wrenches is essential to ensure the continuity of your production process. No matter if it is a small or large torque wrenches up to 3150 Nm (2.323 lbf.ft) torque. Torque wrenches must work within strict tolerances to provide the right force to tighten bolts or nuts as required. A properly calibrated wrench will accurately measure torque, allowing a fastener to be tightened with the correct tension and preventing mutual connection failures. An excessive deviation can result in less reliable or vulnerable bolt connections.

All torque wrenches, no matter if it’s a digital torque wrench, click torque wrench, hydraulic torque wrench etc. needs to be calibrated at least once a year or after every 5.000 cycles (whichever occurs first) to meet ISO 6789 regulations. Modern international standards for torque wrenches are based on ISO 6789-1:2017 and 6789-2:2017. Where the first parts speak mostly about the production side of wrenches, the second part describes the given rules for calibration and certification of torque wrenches. ISO grants 4% to 6% over or below the torque indicated by a torque wrench’s setting in testing. However, anything outside of those barriers is considered out of compliance. Assessing whether a torque tool is out of calibration requires torque analyzers and sensors. At GMS Instruments, we specialised in torque wrench calibration of 20 Nm up to 3150 Nm.
