Background and Identification
The TP-LINK Archer C7 is a wireless router introduced in 2013. It was TP-LINK’s first router on the market to support the new (at the time) 802.11ac wireless standard. Thus, the device can create both a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network. On the lower frequency band, the Archer C7 can move up to 450 Gbit/s of data while the 5 GHz band supports up to 1300 Gbit/s. The marketing and packaging for the Archer C7 focuses on the branding “AC1750,” where 1750 is just the combined speeds of both wireless bands added together.
The router has three black antennae which stick up from the back of the device. These can be removed if you are traveling, but you must reattach them to use the 5 GHz functionality. The case on the router is glossy and black with ten status lights in a row on the front. Around the back, the device has five gigabit Ethernet ports (one to connect to the wider internet and four to connect to devices in your house). Nearby you can also find the power on/off switch and a recessed reset button. There is also a USB port which you can use to connect external drives and share them across the network. To access the device’s settings, you can login by going to http://tplinkwifi.net/ in your browser.
You can identify this router by looking for the model number on a sticker on the side or bottom of the device. This support article from TP-LINK has more information on the subject.
