Amy and Matt Roloff’s divorce isn’t exactly a new story. But, TLC’s Little People, Big World draws in new fans every season who do not know the full history behind the Roloff family. What is the true reason behind the end of Amy and Matt Roloff’s marriage? Why did Amy and Matt Roloff get divorced? When did they get divorced? How long was the LPBW couple married before they got divorced?

When did they get married, anyway?

Via YouTube, Amy Roloff dove pretty deep into the details of her marriage to Matt. Turns out, they had a long-distance relationship nearly the entire time they were dating. Amy and Matt Roloff barely knew each other when they married

Unfortunately, it sounds as if Amy and Matt didn’t know much about each other when they got married. This is because they spent very little time together before getting married.

One day, I met someone at the annual Little People of America national conference. He was from California, and I from Michigan. We were two different types of people and had two different types of dwarfism.”

Amy reveals she and Matt only met in person four times before becoming engaged. She explained she didn’t want to let distance get in the way of being with Matt.

We got married three months later. I moved from everything I’ve ever known — my home, family, friends, community, and home state to move out West to where he lived.”

Unfortunately, it sounds like Amy Roloff gave up a lot to marry a man she barely knew.

Matt and Amy Roloff got married on September 12, 1987. Just three months after their engagement.

And, when did they get divorced?

It was in 2006 that the world met Amy and Matt Roloff via Little People, Big World. The Roloffs. Born with dwarfism. They ran a family business called Roloff Farms. They had four beautiful children together.

Amy and Matt Roloff struggled with a lot of what you would expect a married couple with four children to deal with. They had angsty teenagers. They had struggles of raising a child with dwarfism.

Matt and Amy Roloff even had struggles within their relationship. But, it wasn’t until after three decades of being together that things ended. The couple called it quits. They got divorced. When exactly did this happen? And, Why? Those are the questions LPBW fans really want to be answered.

Ok, so why did Amy and Matt Roloff divorce?

According to Nicki Swift, there are a whole wealth of reasons why this marriage came to an end after 30 years. The simplest reason could be just that Amy and Matt really didn’t know each other when they got married. While this could have been a factor, many believe there were several contributing factors. Here are some of the reasons fans think this relationship ended:

• Matt Roloff had legal issues
• He was unfaithful, too close to Caryn Chandler
• They had different relationship priorities
• Stress and health issues
• Coping with an empty nest
• Did not enjoy traveling together
• Crazy fans caused issues in the relationship
• Amy’s hoarding pushed Matt Roloff out
• Marriage counseling was not successful
• Couldn’t separate business and pleasure
• Matt struggled with drugs

By themselves, any one of these issues could have driven a wedge between Amy and Matt Roloff that couldn’t be mended. But, several of these issues mixed together? It is possible the marriage between Amy and Matt ended simply because they couldn’t find any joy in their relationship. After being on TV and in the spotlight… It is possible the marriage was just too much work.

Many media outlets do not report exactly when Amy and Matt Roloff got divorced. Why? Well, simply because there is a lot of differing information on when exactly they filed. The timeline of their divorce and separation looks a little something like this:

• The couple allegedly separated in March of 2014
• They filed for divorce somewhere between March and April of 2016
• The divorce process was completed somewhere between April and May of 2016

Their official date of divorce is believed to be May 18, 2016.

Who filed for divorce first: Matt or Amy?

One of the most debated questions in LPBW fans is simple: who filed for divorce first? Did Amy file for divorce against Matt Roloff? Or, did Matt Roloff file for divorce against Amy? According to Good Housekeeping, the dates above aren’t completely accurate. Moreover, the outlet would argue the question of which Roloff filed for divorce first is a pointless debate. Why? Well, this outlet suggests the couple jointly filed for divorce at the same time.

Court documents at the time reveal Matt and Amy were able to split their assets evenly. And, they were both “satisfied” with the end results of the divorce. So, it doesn’t appear that Amy Roloff filed for divorce first nor did Matt Roloff. It sounds as if it was a mutual decision.

They are both are happy with other people now

Amy and Matt Roloff are both happy and healthy in relationships with someone else. Amy finally moved off of Roloff Farms and sold her portion of the property to Matt. So, she can move on with her life and he can move on with his. The duo still interacts because they have children together. And, they still interact for the sake of the TLC series.

But, things are always very tense between Amy and Matt. Even their son Zach admitted on the show it was better for everyone’s mental health for his mother to move off of Roloff Farms and sell her portion of the property to get that separation from her ex-husband.

   1. I think Matt wants the $, he could if sold part of that farm to his son he has $. She left selling her 1/2 and now that house is worth a lot more and Matt with have even more $-

Matt should be careful vengeance is the lord it always looks better on the other side until u get there he destroyed his family they had a great show now not so sure what goes around comes around to bite you poor Amy she loved her family took as much as she could I’m glad she found happiness in another man Chris he got a good faithful woman blessing to their marriage

6. Army is too controlling and is always blaming Matt or others when life doesn’t go her way. It is exhausting for any man to constantly have to tip toe around her to avoid making her anger and/or to keep her happy. She did not want Matt but didn’t want anyone else to have him either. Odds are high her marriage to Chris will end in divorce. At least Matt was never henpecked. The only other person more controlling than Amy is Tori! No one beats that tub of lard for manipulation. Zach married his mother and worse. Karma truly beat the odds to nail Tori and well she deserved it. Tori is to Zach what Megan Markle is to Prince Harry. Tori clearly wears the pants in that family and Zack is henpecked. She is also much smarter than he is. Tori’s strong opinions and domination over Zach keep him from being closer to all his family members/ the ones she doesn’t like, is jealous of, doesn’t agree with or feels slighted by because Tori carries a grudge/has a big chip on her fat shoulders. Politically the 4 Roloff children are divided in what appears to be 3 to 1 and Tori/zach are part of the 3 group and Tori exploits that difference to turn others against the 1 sibling in law that does not align with her views. Jeremy and Zach are the best looking of the 4 siblings as both are handsome men. Jeremy married a beautiful woman and Zach married a plain Jane with an early hunch back. The other 2 siblings younger boy and only girl are not that attractive. Articles have them on Tori’s political side and Tori ensures they keep distance from the couple who is not. Tori is a fat plain Jane who is jealous of a woman she sees as a rival because she is pretty , happy and kept her trim figure despite having children also and her children are normal size something Tori said she wanted at least one normal sized child and never got.
