Tupac's '96 BWM 7-Series Is For Sale, But It Has A Morbid History

The year, 1996. The city, Las Vegas. East Flamingo Road and Koval Lane. It’s 11:15 p.m., Sept. 7, and rapper Tupac Shakur just left the MGM Grand casino with producer Suge Knight in a 1996 BMW 750iL. Shots ring out. Shakur gets hit by four .40-caliber rounds, two in the chest, one in the arm and one in the thigh. He dies six days later in a nearby hospital.

That car, then registered to Death Row Records, is now for sale at Celebrity Cars of Las Vegas for $1.75 million. It’s a morbid piece of hip-hop history, but a piece of history just the same.

This is Pac’s BMW with .40-caliber bullet holes from that night in Las Vegas.

This is the first time the car has been up for sale or on display since the legendary rapper’s untimely death. It has been completely restored except for one small indent, which Celebrity Cars says may or may not be a remnant of one of those .40-caliber holes.

The car comes with documentation proving its provenance. It has had several owners since the shooting, according to Celebrity Cars, but the most recent owner gave it the restoration.

The 750iL isn’t minty fresh, with 121,043 miles, but the restoration looks nearly flawless. The 5.4-liter V12 made 322 hp and 361 lb-ft of torque when new, and the five-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels only.

What do you think? Does this car’s history prove its worth? We did just see a ratty Bullitt Mustang cross the block for $3.4 million. Does Pac get a bigger bump than Steve McQueen? Have you ever wanted to own a piece of morbid music history? Now’s your chance. Go to CelebrityCars.com for more information or to buy.

When he’s not writing about, driving, working on or thinking about cars, he’s reading liberal books and playing video games. In his opinion, the best new car in the world is the Ferrari 488 Pista. The Ford Shelby GT350, the Nissan GT-R and the Porsche 911 GT3 are favorites too. He owns a 1963 Pontiac Star Chief, a 2014 Ford Mustang GT and 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL.
