Universal3D (u3d) is a compressed format for 3D graphics developed by the 3D industry Forum. The design comprises shading, meshes, motion data, lighting, and lines with their colour and structure. And the strings in these files are different from other data types. But it’s quite helpful when it comes to creating interactive and animated documents. The sole purpose of the u3d file was to create a universal standard used to store and exchange 3D data. It focuses on various aspects like; lighting, geometry, textures, colour and animations. U3D is made up of three blocks; file header block, declaration block and continuation block. These blocks are aligned with each other and assume the same format. UD3 can be compressed into smaller size. Compression helps in reducing these files, saving computer time and memory. The encoding method in this file has numerous functions. Such functions include; reports in engineering, manufacturing, environmental surveys and the medical field. The files in this format can be viewed in Adobe Reader. It is also primarily supported by the PDF format. Other applications that support the format include; Adobe Photoshop, ArchiCAD and KeyCreator.
