With majority of falls among the elderly occurring in their homes, it is important to fall-proof the bathroom area.

Installing grab bars is a simple way to prevent falls, and to also provide users with more support as they carry out their daily activities. In this article, we cover the key areas in the bathroom where you should install grab bars, as well as provide information on the estimated charges for grab bar installation.

Here is a quick summary of where you can install grab bars in your home:

 

Beside the toilet bowl

We recommend a 30 cm or 45 cm HappyBath Stainless Steel Nylon Grab Bar, installed horizontally beside the toilet bowl to support the user in sitting and standing.

 

We also have L-shaped Grab Bars and Angled Grab Bars available. These are useful to be placed beside the toilet bowl where there is more space available on the wall. One key benefit is that the user is able to hold onto 2 different parts of the grab bar, which provides them with greater support to stand and sit. You may also consider the Designer Angled Grab Bar for those who prefer a more stylish grab bar.

 

If there is no wall beside the toilet bowl, you can consider a HappyBath Stainless Steel Nylon Folding Grab Bar instead. The folding grab bar will be installed on the back wall and there is an option to flip up and down depending on preference. These come in two lengths, 60 and 75 cm. Typically due to the design of the toilet bowl, a 75 cm length will be more suitable. You may consider the shorter 60 cm length if space is a constraint.

Note: If there is a glass partition or wall, it is not recommended to install any grab bar nor use any suction bar on this surface as it is not designed for that purpose.

 

In the shower area

We recommend that a 30cm HappyBath Stainless Steel Nylon Grab Bar is installed vertically under the shower head, and a 45cm HappyBath Stainless Steel Nylon Grab Bar along the wall installed horizontally.

Entrance of doorways with a small step

We recommend a shorter bar of 20cm HappyBath Stainless Steel Nylon Grab Bar or 30cm HappyBath Stainless Steel Nylon Grab Bar to be installed vertically on the wall next to the door frame. You can also consider a Designer Hand Grip, which has a sleek design to blend into your home.

 

Along walkways and corridors

• Subsequent fixtures will cost $15 (standard) and $25 (non-standard) each

 

On-site Assessment:

• $35 service charge for initial assessment
• You will be advised on any other additional installation/ relocation/ fees prior to the commencement of work

Note: It is important to engage an experienced handyman for the installation as there may be concealed water pipes or hollow tiles, and these situations may affect the installation of the grab bars and their effectiveness.
