If you're the type of person who remembers to use eye cream everyday, congratulations: You're probably also a pro at keeping plants alive, and have never had to wear a bathing suit bottom as underwear because you forgot to do laundry.

While there's no excuse for my perpetually-wilted ficus or overflowing hamper, I will say that the reason I rarely keep up with applying eye cream is because 95 percent of the ones I've tried either make my eyes water, create little bumps around my lids, or fail to deliver any noticeable brightening or depuffing benefits.

Happily, Verso Super Eye Serum is among the rarified five-percent. To be fair, it's not quite an eye cream — it's an eye serum, which is one of the reasons why I love it. The lightweight texture doesn't irritate my eyes or cause milia to pop up on my lids, which I've experienced when using heavier, more-occlusive formulas.

It was a delightful plot twist to an experience I worried might be marked by peeling and itchiness. After all, the star ingredient of this serum is retinol, an ingredient known for causing sensitivity. But the retinol complex used here, a blend unique to the brand, provides all the perks of the famous vitamin-A derivative without the irritation.

And just what might those perks be? After applying the eye serum nightly for about two weeks, my dark circles were less purple and the undereye bags I often wake up with were notably less puffy. The results were remarkable enough that I know this is one eye product I won’t forget to use — which in my book, is the highest praise of all.

In closing, I’d like to spotlight one last feature that puts this formula over the edge: Its applicator, which allows you to apply pinhead-size dots of serum directly on your undereyes (which I then pat in using my ring finger), no jar-scraping required.
