| CIL | We have xp units with 3.5mm, 15" blades when new. They are down to 14 3/8" dia. and the blade contact is at 2 1/4" (per sliding business card procedure). Deere manual says replace at 14" or less and less than 1 1/2 " contact of blades. According to Deere, they are still ok. Everywhere else I have searched says that if they are less than 14.5" to replace. What would you do or have done? By the way, 16 row and 1700 acres to plant. $40.70 per opener. | oxford county, ontario | Around here, your openers would be worn too much before you get done this year, so either change them now or plan on spending time in season changing your openers. Doesnt take long to loose $650.00 worth of corn not planting properly! Persoanlly I would change them now and not have to worry about it in season. |

| Replace now. Don't be a cheap ass. |

| Kansas | Ours are at 14 inches and are replacing them now. Replacing with Shoup blades, they are $29.95 and they pay shipping on order over $200. Blades are same width as JD and are American Made. We have used before and are very satisfied. I would change them now before planting if they are that close to 14. They won't last all season. |

| Probably need seed tube guards while you are at it... Check the gauge wheel arm bushings/closing wheel arm bushings for wear. They get about 500 acres/row before I change them. |

| frederick, MD | Might be differing conditions but the shoup blades do not last as long for me, and bend. |

| kansas/nebraska border | I think that $40.70 is per blade not per row. So that would be $1300. My blades were about the same last year and I decided to replace, glad I did cause all most half of the rows had a bearing going out and those were JD blades |

| North Central Iowa | Our JD man says to replace them when the bevel is gone on the edge of the opener. |

| NE SD | I have taken them down to just over 14" and got along fine but that depends on planting conditions. If its very dry and you have to small of disks it could lead to poor emergence imo. I have went to using shoupe openers and have never been able to tell any difference. Good luck |
