RICHMOND, Va. (7News) — Richmond is gearing up to welcome incoming Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin this Saturday, Jan. 15. Youngkin, a Republican, will be the Commonwealth's 74th governor.
According to plans released in December, there's three-days worth of events planned to start Thursday night. The Associated Press has reported some details from the events that have not yet been made public.
“The theme for inauguration weekend celebrates Virginia’s spirit—one linked to a rich history, but an even more exciting future as Virginians come together to make Virginia the best place to live, work, and raise a family,” said Governor-elect Glenn and Suzanne Youngkin.

The Inaugural Parade will take place following the Swearing-In Ceremony and will reflect Virginia’s spirit of community and will showcase groups from all corners of the Commonwealth. Parade participants will march through Capitol Square, and attendees will have a front-row seat to witness the great people that embody the Spirit of Virginia. The parade will begin outside the State Capitol. (Open to the public)
“The inaugural parade will bring Virginians together to celebrate the virtues, diversity, and spirit of Virginia. We are excited that members of the Virginia National Guard, Virginia university and high school students, NASA representatives, the great men and women of our law enforcement, among others will be joining the festivities. This will be a unique and momentous celebration that honors every corner of the Commonwealth,” said Youngkin.
