  It is a big weekend for sports in Auburn-Opelika. The USA Pickleball Golden Ticket Tournament is underway at the Opelika Pickleball Facility, welcoming more than 400 players competing for a chance to qualify for the USA Pickleball National Championships, the premier tournament in the sport. Thank you to USA Pickleball and Opelika Parks and Recreation for bringing this exciting event to our community. This weekend also features the C1N (Cam Newton 7v7) 7-on-7 Football Tournament at Lake Wilmore Park Recreation Complex in Auburn. Founded by NFL quarterback Cam Newton, C1N brings together more than 70 youth teams for a competitive showcase. Thank you to City of Auburn, AL Parks and Recreation for hosting. The FUJI BJJ Auburn Winter Championships will take place at the Wire Road Soccer Complex indoor facility, welcoming athletes of all ages and skill levels for a full day of jiu-jitsu competition. Thank you again to Auburn Parks and Recreation for supporting the event. We are proud to welcome these athletes, families and fans to the Auburn-Opelika community and wish everyone a great weekend of competition.

  AOT is now accepting summer internship applications! We’re looking for high-energy, creative students who want real, hands-on experience in communications, PR, marketing, and destination storytelling. Our interns work directly with our marketing & communications team on meaningful projects and gain experience in digital content creation, tourism marketing, and more. Students should be available to work about 18–30 hours per week and bring curiosity, initiative, and fresh ideas to the table.   Exceptional customer experiences start with the right skills. The Opelika Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Flawless Delivery to offer a hands-on customer service certification course designed to strengthen the skills that shape exceptional customer experiences. Participants will gain practical tools to better connect with customers, navigate challenges, and represent their organization with confidence. Registration for this training closes March 16.

  Last week, Visit Sarasota County had the pleasure of hosting the 3rd Annual Braves Country Spring Training FAM & Client Outing, and we’re incredibly grateful that Sarasota County had the opportunity to play host this year! It was a great opportunity to showcase everything our destination has to offer while connecting with partners, clients, and fellow destinations over two days of networking, site visits, and some great baseball. Peter Harvey and I truly enjoyed highlighting our incredible destination. A big thank you to several partners who helped make the experience possible: 🏨 Rob Ferguson and the team at Aloft Sarasota for hosting the group. We heard nothing but glowing reviews from attendees about the property and hospitality. ⚾ Scott Moudry and the Baltimore Orioles for helping secure a suite for a Spring Training game at Ed Smith Stadium. It turned into a thrilling matchup that came down to the final inning. 🌳 Sarasota County Government - Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources for facilitating a quick site visit to the new 17th Street Regional Park for two of our clients. The excitement around the future of that facility continues to grow. Thanks Casey Doyle, CPRP & Keely Sorensen, CPRP 🌴 Lee Jennings & Danielle Hohn over at The Big Tiki Lounge in Siesta Key for hosting a fun and seamless social gathering for the group after the game. It was an awesome couple of days filled with meaningful conversations, relationship building, and future business opportunities for our destination. A special thank you as well to Rachel Rogers, Timothy Ray, and the Cobb Travel & Tourism team for trusting Sarasota County to host this year’s outing.   We would like to extend a special thank you to State Representative Joe Lovvorn for his generous support of this year’s Alabama Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament. Through an Alabama tourism legislative grant provided to Auburn-Opelika Tourism, Representative Lovvorn helped enhance this event for the incredible athletes and families visiting Auburn. We are grateful for his continued support of the Special Olympics and these amazing athletes and families.

  Austin 1st Foundation, this year’s recipient of the Eagle Award for Charitable Contribution, is dedicated to advancing research, raising awareness, and supporting families impacted by rare diseases. Founded by co-founders Anthony Terling, STS, CHSP and Lindsey Terling, the organization works to fund critical research, serve as a trusted resource for families navigating complex diagnoses, and advocate for improved care for those affected by UBA5 and other rare conditions. Their leadership continues to create meaningful impact in Alabama and beyond.

  On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 6-8 p.m., Auburn will host Children’s Table 2026 at the Tony & Libba Rane Culinary Science Center, located at 205 S. College St. The chef-driven fundraiser will feature curated tastings led by acclaimed chefs and editors from Food & Wine and Southern Living. Proceeds benefit Children's Hospital of Alabama, supporting nutritional programs for pediatric patients and their families statewide.
