Location The Declaration House is located at 700 Market Street.   What to see and do Although the Declaration House remains closed, stand on the bustling street corner and imagine what it looked like when Thomas Jefferson rented rooms in a house on this site in 1776. Jefferson, along with his 14 year old enslaved valet Robert Hemmings, stayed at this location—then on the outskirts of the city—while drafting the Declaration of Independence.   Accessibility When open, the Declaration House garden is wheelchair accessible.
