Wait So, Marinette Is 13? But... How Does That...

Oh don’t worry! I’m happy to answer any questions and you’re far from the only one who’s confused. Heck even people who have watched the episode are lost lol.

Basically this episode reveals that Marinette was 13 years old when she first received her miraculous, and upon this birthday she just turned 14 years old (but as for which episodes in seasons 1-2 is she 13 or which is she 14 I really don’t know).

The episode that you’re referring to is the Pharoah and yes Alya does say that they’re in 10th grade, however that’s only in the English dub. In the French dub she says that they’re in middle school and in 9th grade.

What people have speculated for the reason why they said that in the English dub is that they’re not going by American school grading systems, but the UK.

So while Alya says grade 10, in the UK that’s the equivalent to grade 9 in America. And in France that’s the equivalent to troisième, the third year and last year of middle school.

And in troisième the age range is typically 14-15 years old, and this is further proven by the fact that Alix turned 15 in her episode. However with it being revealed that Marinette was 13 going on 14, it still makes her the youngest person in the class.

So yeah now the great debate is how is she the youngest and why did her parents enroll her early? And I have a couple of theories like:

her birthday being in the summer

she skipped kindergarten

or heck she’s actually really school smart and was moved up a grade

Either way we don’t know for sure, and I’m kind of doubting that the writers had the ages, grades and just chronological time in general, in mind in the first place while writing lol.
