The presence of Love Quinn-Goldberg's twin brother Forty is still very much felt in season three of Netflix's You, despite his death at the end of the second season.

Not only does Love seem to be having a hard time moving on from this loss, still periodically texting his phone (that's stuffed in the draw of her bedside table), but her new son Henry is often referred to as "Forty" – especially by the Quinn twins' mother.

Forty's death, and the circumstances that surrounded it, is mentioned throughout the third batch of episodes. So if you're in need of a recap of what exactly happened to Forty, you've come to the right place.

As also referenced once again in season three, Forty had a traumatic childhood; he was drugged and almost sexually assaulted by the Quinn family's au pair, with his twin sister the only one attempting to protect him.

We've since come to learn that Love will go to some pretty extreme lengths to stop her family from coming to harm or being threatened, and it's fairly clear that it was this incident from her early years that triggered that particularly murderous instinct.

As if all that wasn't twisted enough, Forty believed that it had been him that was responsible for the death of the nanny and the guilt and fear of that stayed with him long into adulthood.

Forty became an addict and continuously struggled, with his sister Love always there to pick up the pieces. Their relationship was intense and co-dependent, and it took a while for Forty to warm to Joe when he and Love first started dating. After a while though Forty and Joe became close friends, to the point that Forty even helped him and Love get back together after a falling out.

But when Forty found out – from Joe's ex Candace, no less – that Joe was responsible for the death of Guinevere Beck, and that he'd framed her therapist to cover up his crime, everything changed.

After visiting Dr Nicky in prison to get confirmation, he felt he must do everything in his power to protect his sister Love (who he believed may be next on Joe's kill list).

Luring Joe to meet him at bakery/book shop hybrid Anavrin, Forty ended up holding a gun to his sister's boyfriend's head. The trouble is, she already knew everything and wanted to stick by Joe – trying in vein to talk Forty down in order to save Joe's life.

It was here that she told Forty that she was pregnant, which only added to his disgust at the kind of people that Love and Joe were showing themselves to be.

Forty could not contain his anger towards Love, which became her lasting memory of their previously unbreakable bond. He also revealed that he had figured out that it had been her that had killed the au pair all those years ago.

Still holding the gun up at Joe, despite Love's pleas, Forty ended up being shot dead by Officer Fincher who entered the room and misread the entire situation.

No wonder that encounter continues to haunt You's Love...
