Walking Dead Airs Huge Whisperers Twist, Resolves Negan Mystery

The Walking Dead season 10 episode 12 ('Walk with Us') spoilers follow. The episode airs in the UK tonight (March 16).

The Walking Dead has aired a major moment from the comic in season 10's latest episode.

Episode 12, titled 'Walk with Us', saw Alpha (Samantha Morton) die at the hands of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) – but there was an added twist unique to the TV show as it also appeared to answer a lingering Negan mystery from early this season.

In the final scene, Negan – after killing Alpha – met up with the person who freed him from the jail cell in Alexandria several episodes ago.

In the aftermath of the attack on Hilltop which left the place in ruins, Alpha was unhappy that her daughter Lydia was not among the dead. Negan captured Lydia and led Alpha to a cabin.

Adamant that she had to kill her own daughter, Alpha found the cabin empty and turned around. Then, just like in the comic, Negan slashed her throat.

But that wasn't the end. Negan followed the kill up by presenting Alpha's decapitated head to none other than Carol.

"Took you long enough," she said – all but confirming that she was the one who freed Negan from his cell back in season 10 episode 4. It also meant that Carol finally got the revenge she long desired, after Alpha killed Carol's son Henry.

Fans in the US have been calling the episode the best yet this season – and it wasn't just the Negan and Alpha scenes. Among other highlights were the massive battle at the start of the episode and moments featuring Judith, Gamma/Mary, and Earl.

"Obviously, both sides in this war have suffered massive losses – a massive loss of home and some people that were important to them, and for the Whisperers they're without their Alpha," showrunner Angela Kang teased to Entertainment Weekly.

"And Negan finds himself kind of in between these two communities. There's just a lot of fallout that's going to happen from that episode as they kind of all march towards a final confrontation.

"And lots of action. I hope people enjoy how the season plays out."

Next week looks to be Danai Gurira's final episode, with the show revisiting Michonne as she travels to Virgil's home on an island.

The Walking Dead continues on Mondays at 9pm on FOX in the UK. You can also catch up on the show via NOW TV. In the US, the show continues on Sundays at 9/8c on AMC.
