The time has finally come for Call of Duty: Warzone to get a new version of the Verdansk map, with the big nuclear event now underway that promises to change things quite significantly.

The event is taking place as part of the big, much-hyped launch of CoD Season 3 that spans both Warzone and Black Ops Cold War, and fans are expecting to see Warzone's Verdansk map obliterated (or at least rewritten) by a deployment of nuclear weapons in the game.

And we are in the midst of that now. To add to the drama, there are zombies - which would probably be the least of your problems after a nuclear detonation.

The above tweet was the first clarification we had that the nuke event was coming and despite it being underway as of yesterday, April 21st, there is still a lot of information that is being kept under wraps.

It was 8pm last night when the first event kicked off and another is coming today, April 22nd, at the same time. This is fully expected to be the Destruction of Verdansk part 2 with a third part due to follow at a later date.

The servers were a slight issue with the last event launch, with many having trouble staying in, or even getting into, the game. The hope is that this will have been sorted by the time the next one begins this evening.

CoD new map details: What will the Call of Duty Warzone Nuke event change?

Warzone fans had been hoping to see a nuke that triggers some big changes to the Verdansk map. For a while all we had to go on were rumours, but Activision soon provided some firm details about what Warzone will look like going forward.

As Activision tantalisingly teased in the aforementioned blog, "The situation in Verdansk has hit a critical level. It seems the combat zone has become too dangerous for even a Tier 1 Operator to survive in. Is a conflagration imminent?

"The answer is still unknown, though it is recommended you clear your schedule for the week and ready yourself for a crescendo of utter chaos within the Warzone. Be certain you’re available for Operation Rapid Sunder throughout Wednesday, April 21 and beyond."

All indications, and it is all but confirmed at this point, are that the map is going to have an '80s themed overhaul when the event ends and season 3 begins. That would make sense as it is the time period that Black Ops Cold War is set in.

Once we have a clearer indication of what the new-look map will entail, we will share all the details here. But regardless, change is afoot and we can't wait to get stuck in - providing we survive the nuke and the zombies, that is.

While we do not have any concrete details, there is enough doing the rounds online at the moment for us to have a good idea of what some of the new revamped post-nuked map will look like.
