This weekend, an eagle in Dubai set a new world record for "highest-ever recorded bird flight from a man-made structure."
Freedom Conservation, an advocacy group, organized the flight to raise awareness for endangered birds and encourage activism.
The eagle, named Darshan, started at the top Dubai's Burj Khalifa tower, the world's tallest building, with a camera on its back to live-stream the experience. Darshan descended 2,700 feet in a minute-and-a-half, flying from the top of the building to a fountain at the base where the bird's trainer was waiting. Darshan was born in captivity and had never flown that high before.
While Darshan's flight is impressive, it is nowhere near as high as many eagles can naturally fly. Bald eagles, for example, can reach heights of 10,000 feet, while other endangered birds like the Ruppell's griffon vulture can fly at 37,000 feet.
Record-breaking or not, the video of the flight offers incredible views of the city of Dubai.
