Also known as The Players, The Players Championship was conceived in 1974 by the PGA Tour. Although it is not a golf major, The Players Championship is known for its prestige and lucrative prize money with the highest prize fund of any golf tournament on offer. The Players Championship is currently being held at Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida every year, but for the first three years, it was held in Marietta, Georgia followed by Fort Worth, Texas and then Lauderhill, Florida.

Compared to regular PGA Tour Events, players can receive more world ranking points, with the winner receiving 80 points. Although this is 20 less than the four major championships, this is still more than any of the World Golf Championship events.
