Nike released an ad Sunday in memory of Gianna "Gigi" Bryant on what would have been her 16th birthday.

The emotional, 60-second spot, titled "Dear Gianna," is meant to be a love letter from "Basketball" and is similar to Kobe Bryant's "Dear Basketball," an Oscar-winning short film. "Dear Gianna" starts off by remembering her dreams of winning a WNBA championship and highlighting that although she inherited greatness, it was what she gave to others that made her special.

"When someone stands up for gender equality, I see you fighting alongside them. And every time someone plays her hardest, I know that's you on the court," says the narrator.

"Mambacita Sweet 16" Kobe 6 launch

Along with the commercial, Nike took out a full-page ad with the entire poem. Nike also released the "Mambacita Sweet 16" Kobe 6 sneaker on Sunday.

This marks the first release of Nike and the Bryant estate since Kobe Bryant's passing, and it includes a message from Vanessa Bryant. Profits from the "Mambacita Sweet 16" sneaker will go to the Mamba and Mambacita Foundation.

Kobe, Gigi, and seven others died in a helicopter accident in California on January 26, 2020. Prior to their passing, Kobe had said that Gianna wanted to play college ball at Connecticut before heading to the WNBA.

Vanessa Bryant, Kobe's widow and Gigi's mother, is currently in a legal battle with Los Angeles County over the sheriff's deputies spreading pictures from the crash site. Rest In Power, Gigi.
