Water-type Pokemon are one of the three starter-type Pokemon. Together, they form a triangular or rock-paper-scissors relationship with Grass and Fire. Water-type Pokemon are often dual types to show the diversity found in aquatic life.
As they are Water-type Pokemon, their moves are water-based, and they can use moves that can only be performed by marine creatures like Clamp or Razor Shell.
Water-type moves are typically Beautiful in contests. However, they can be from any other Contest type, such as Clever, Cool, Tough, or Cute.
Some of the most popular Water-type trainers include Misty, the Cerulean Gym Leader; Wallace, the Sootopolis Gym Leader; and Marlon, the Humilau Gym Leader.
Water Type Weaknesses
Water-type Pokemon have weaknesses to Electric and Grass-type moves when on defense. Their attacks are not very effective against Fire, Water, Grass, and Dragon-type Pokemon.
Water Type Strengths
Water-type moves are strong (Super Effective) against Fire, Ground, and Rock Pokemon. When a Water Pokemon is on defense, they are resistant to Fire, Water, Ice, and Steel-type moves.
