NewsMusic News Wayne Static – death caused by mixing alcohol and prescription drugs

The Static-X frontman passed away in November 2014 at the age of 48

By NME News Desk 13th March 2015

The cause of death of Wayne Static has been revealed by the San Bernardino County coroner.

It was confirmed on November 1 2014 that Static had passed away aged 48. It has now been found that his death was due to mixing alcohol and prescription drugs, with the coroner’s report citing “mixed prescription drug (oxycodone, hydromorphone, alprazolam) with alcohol toxicity” as the cause of the musician’s death.

Blabbermouth has reproduced the report, which reads:

“On November 1, at approximately 0700 hours, [Wayne] and his wife went to bed. His wife stated that just prior to going to bed, he crushed one-half of a 30 mg oxycodone pill and consumed it. The oxycodone had been prescribed to his wife. He also drank an unknown amount of alcohol. His wife awoke at around 1530 hours. She found the decedent dead in the bed and called 911 at 1547 hours. Paramedics arrived and confirmed death at 1600 hours, noting rigor mortis and lividity. There was no evidence of foul play or any indication a struggle had taken place.”

A coroner had previously ruled that foul play was not suspected in the death of the Static-X frontman. Static’s widow, Tera Wray Static, last year went on record to state that her husband did not die of a drug overdose.

Wayne Static began a solo career under the name Static-X following his band’s indefinite hiatus in 2010. The group released five studio albums, including their platinum-selling debut ‘Wisconsin Death Trip.’
