Waypoint

Waypoint icon
Waypoint is an in-game tool to pinpoint an exact location in a level. Like mission objectives, waypoints generally show up both on the minimap and as an onscreen waypoint. When the destination is in the player's line of sight (for example, on the opposite side of the same room), the onscreen waypoint will point toward that destination; otherwise, the onscreen waypoint will point toward the nearest "checkpoint" which takes the player closer to the destination.

Usage[]

It is used by pointing the reticle on the screen and pressing the waypoint hotkey (default: G ). Waypoints can be used to pinpoint any part of the level (except the skybox), but gain special functionality when used to mark enemies, resources, mods, syndicate medallions, reactant, Ayatan treasures, Kuria or consoles. Each player in a squad can have one waypoint active at a time—pressing the waypoint hotkey while a waypoint is currently active will move the old waypoint to the new position or object of interest.

To manually remove a waypoint, tap the waypoint button while looking at the waypoint or briefly hold the hotkey while looking anywhere. An easier method is to stop moving and set the waypoint twice: once to set it at your reticle and twice to remove it. Waypoints which are not manually removed will automatically disappear after 1 minute in normal missions and 5 minutes in Landscape missions.

Notes[]

  • Max Waypoint range is 250 meters.
  • Using a Waypoint to mark an enemy (or ally) reveals its location, facing and alertness on the minimap for the squad while they are within ~47 meters of its current location if that enemy (or ally) was not already revealed by a source of enemy radar such as Mod TT 20px Enemy Sense. The onscreen waypoint, which is red for enemies and white for allies, continues to display regardless of distance from the enemy.
    • The waypoint disappears automatically if the enemy (or ally) dies.
  • Using a Waypoint to mark a collectible causes the waypoint to automatically disappear for the marking player if everyone in the squad collects the marked item. For non-marking players, the waypoint will disappear upon collecting the marked item.
    • Resource waypoints display their resource icon and name in the onscreen waypoint and a white cube on the minimap.
    • Mod and Endo waypoints, by default, display unique icons and their generic name ("Module" or "Endo") in the onscreen waypoint and unique icons on the minimap. However, most mods dropped by enemies will substitute their specific mod name in place of "Module".
    • Ayatan Stars and reactant are automatically marked with a unique waypoint when they appear (though the latter's game-generated waypoint has a much shorter range than that of other waypoints); as well, syndicate medallions are automatically marked with "loot radar" waypoints when any player collects them. Waypoints generated in this manner do not count against the squad's waypoint limit, nor do they prevent players from manually marking these collectibles.
    • Ayatan sculptures display a "loot radar" waypoint when marked. Picking up a sculpture does not create a game-generated waypoint.
  • Using a Waypoint to mark a Kuria causes the waypoint to bear a unique icon.
  • Using a Waypoint to mark anything else displays a white circle with the player's number, as shown in the Player List for the current mission, in the onscreen waypoint and on the minimap.

Trivia[]

  • Amusingly, pinpointing a console used to mark them as a Panic Button, most likely referring to the fact that enemies can lockdown a tileset.
