Paper Trading at Webull

If you want to practice trading stocks, ETFs, closed-end funds, or option contracts without putting real money on the line, Webull has an answer for you. The brokerage firm offers simulated trading on all three of its software platforms (web browser, mobile app, and desktop program) free of charge. Because a dummy currency is used for demo trades, there is essentially no risk.

Entering Practice Mode on Webull

To actually place a simulated trade at Webull with the fake currency, you first must put the platform in simulated mode. On the browser platform, there is a Paper Trading icon in the vertical left-hand menu. Click on this and the software will automatically produce a new workspace with the paper-trading order ticket. Webull Paper Trading on desktop On the desktop system, the same layout exists. On the mobile app, go into the Menu section (by tapping on the Menu icon in the bottom menu) and scroll down to the Shortcuts section. Here, tap on the More icon. On the next page, scroll down to the Trading section. Here, you will find the paperTrade icon. Tap on this and you’ll get the demo-trading section.

Order Tickets

The order ticket in simulated mode is typically a slimmed-down version of Webull’s regular order ticket. Market and limit are the two available order types in a demo trade. This means it’s not possible to use advanced order types (which do show up in live mode). The short sell button on the regular ticket is also missing in action on the demo ticket. Thus, it’s not possible to practice shorting stocks in paper mode. There are two duration choices in simulated mode: day and GTC (good til canceled). Extended hours can be turned on, which means practice trades can execute during the pre-market or after-hours session. The desktop platform offers multiple trade tickets in practice mode. They are: - Classic Trade - Order Entry - TurboTrader - Price Ladder Although some of these tickets are abbreviated, they nevertheless are a good opportunity to practice them without putting real money at risk. Webull Demo Trading of Option Contracts

To get some options practice in, you’ll need to open the mobile app. This is the only platform Webull offers with demo trading of options. Once you’re on the paper-trading page, tap on the Options icon, enter the ticker symbol of the underlying asset, and you’ll see the list of contracts. Only calls and puts can be traded; there are no multi-leg strategies available in simulated mode. Tap on a bid or ask price and you’ll get the options order ticket.

Resetting Webull Practice Account Value

Webull’s paper trading starts at $100,000 in account value. This number, of course, is an imitation currency.
