Welcome Back! — Happy Birthday Bakugou - Lovely-angst

a little late, but i want nothing but happiness for Bakugou!

April 20th was celebrated like a national holiday. No one could forget Pro Hero Ground Zero’s birthday.

Bakugou wasn’t much of a birthday type of guy, but he was always thankful for whatever gifts he received on his birthday from family, friends or fans. You too were thankful that Bakugou was so loved, but it also made it harder on you when it came to his birthday.

How were you ever going to compare to the extravagant gifts and parties dedicated just for him? You couldn’t get him amazing presents, nothing that could compare to how wonderful he was.

The sun was high in the sky on this beautiful and bright day, but Bakugou’s schedule was filled up to the rim, expected but disappointing, to say the least.

“Sorry babe,” Bakugou apologized as he planted a kiss on your cheek, “I won’t be home until late in the evening today.” Shaking your head, you gave him a reassuring smile, “No, it’s your birthday, I understand. The whole world wants to celebrate with you today, not just me.”

With a grin, Bakugou leaned over to press another kiss on your lips before he opened the door of the apartment, giving you one last glance, “You’re too good to me.”

Waving goodbye, you let out a small sigh before you shut the door behind you, scrambling to prepare a birthday celebration of your own for Bakugou.

It had taken you a whole week to plan for this very special day. You wanted it to be something Bakugou would enjoy and remember. You thought of everything Bakugou liked and enjoyed and tried to put it all into one special evening.

Maybe he would enjoy this little gift, maybe he would even remember it a little from time to time.

The sun had begun to set and you had changed into something more presentable as you finished getting ready. Bakugou was going to be home soon, and you wanted to at least look a little better for him on his special day.

Walking back into the kitchen, you looked over the meal you had cooked and glanced around nervously. What if he doesn’t like it? I’m not a chef or anything, what if he thinks it’s bad? Oh jeez, my idea was so bad!

As you cried mentally, you heard the door open before Bakugou walked in, hauling gifts behind him. “Katsuki! Welcome back!” You cried as you ran over to greet him, helping him with the loads of gifts. “Thanks, I didn’t realize I’d get so many gifts,” he stated as the two of you set the bags down in a corner of the room.

Your eyes finally met Bakugou’s as the two of you stood up straight. Staring you down, Bakugou didn’t utter a word and you suddenly felt embarrassed at your silly presentation. “S-Stop staring! I just wanted to look a little prettier for you on your birthday, that’s all..” you mumbled looking down shyly before Bakugou let out a chuckle.

“It’s nothing to get embarrassed about,” he explained, grabbing your waist and pulling you closer before he neared your ear, “you look lovely.” You probably could have died from that alone and nothing would have mattered. Leaning back, you glance up at him with pink cheeks and a sheepish smile.

Bakugou was blushing himself.

“Well, I made you some dinner! I included all of your favorite foods and after that, I thought we could open presents and then finish the night off with a movie and cuddles!” Escaping his arms, you excitedly show him the kitchen table where many dishes were prepared and waiting to be tasted from the birthday boy. “My cooking isn’t the best, but I thought I should try and make you something. It always feels special when it’s homemade.”

Throughout dinner, Bakugou watched you explain what you made and how you made it excitedly. He smiled gently from your expressions and how passionate you were about his birthday. It made him happy.

“This is good, you should make some more another day,” Bakugou complimented, watching as your face was exploded with happiness from his words. “You really like it? Ahh, I’m so proud of myself!” you chirp happily as you smile cheekily over at Bakugou.

He wasn’t known to throw out so many compliments, but he couldn’t help himself when he would be rewarded with your smile.

Once dinner was finished, you dragged him over to the living room to open some of the gifts he had gotten earlier that day. You gasped at each one, shocked at the price or how amazing the gift itself was.

“I got you something,” you state, running over to the bedroom before sitting beside Bakugou with a large bag in your hand. Taking the bag, Bakugou reached into the bag and pulled out a small picture frame and some small stickers. You smile shyly as he examined the gift, “It’s not much but I thought you would like it.”

Glancing at the photo, Bakugou realized it was a candid photo of the two of you in high school. Bakugou was leaning on his chair infront of you, elbow on your desk as the two of you had a conversation. “I found that picture a long time ago, but I thought it was time for you to have and enjoy it now.”

Bakugou chuckled, pointing at you in the picture, “I remember when you used to come to school with such bad hair,” he joked and you flushed. “Hey! At least I didn’t sag like you!” You shot back and Bakugou narrowed his eyes at you. “Anyways, what are these stickers about?”

Raising them towards you, you smiled and took one off, placing it on Bakugou’s nose, “They’re stickers to remind you of me.” You smiled brightly at him as you placed one on yourself. “You’re always out doing hero work and I don’t know what kind of mess you get into or see, but I just want you to know that I’m always there for you,” you explain gently, playing with Bakugou’s rough hand. “I thought maybe you could stick these on somewhere on your hero outfit so that way you could see it and think of me during your fights.”

Looking down at the stickers in his hands, he couldn’t help but feel joy. You were always so thoughtful and sweet and just innocent. How adorable.

“Sorry that my gifts are not as amazing as the others you had gotten today, but I hope you’ll love them just as much.” You finish, giving him a peck on the lips before sitting back down beside him.

“This is more than enough for me, thanks,” Bakugou leaned over and wrapped his arms around you, causing you to squeak from his sudden affection. But you smiled and wrapped your arms around him nonetheless, resting your head on his shoulder happily. “Happy Birthday Katsuki.”

It had been about a week since his birthday and you were on the couch watching the news on Bakugou and the villain he had just fought. They were interviewing him about the battle and how he fought so well.

“As expected from Pro Hero Ground Zero!” The interviewer exclaimed cheerfully before they continued on with a question, “We are dying to know, what do those stickers on your hero costume mean?”

Your eyes widened as the camera did a close-up shot of the stickers on his costume. The stickers that you had gifted him on his birthday. Bakugou chuckled into the microphone before looking at the camera, causing your heart to skip a beat.

“A special birthday present from someone I admire. When I look at these stickers, I know I’ll always be safe.” Bakugou explained and you could hear the interviewer “awe” in response.

It was something so simple, but the fact that Bakugou cherished it made you overwhelmingly happy.

Bakugou turned back to the camera with a grin, “I know you’re watching me right now (Name), you’ll always be good luck charm.”
