What age do your boobs stop growing?

The chest starts to develop a couple of years before the start of menstruation. The age of which puberty takes place varies; some girls may start puberty as young as 8 but typically puberty begins between the ages of 10-15.

At what age do breasts typically start to grow?

The first sign of breast development is commonly known as 'budding', as the breast tissue begins to form under the nipple. There is no uniform way for boobs to develop, one breast may begin to appear as long as 6 months before the other and may continue to grow at different rates. It is not uncommon for one breast to be larger than the other after they stop growing, this is referred to as breast asymmetry and can be treated through corrective surgery if desired. For more information on breast asymmetry, check out our procedure page!

When do breasts stop growing?

A woman's breasts change in size and shape over the course of her lifetime. These changes relate to a number of factors including age, hormones, pregnancy, medical conditions and lifestyle. For most people, their breasts will stop growing at age 18, though many girl's breasts tend to stop developing around 2 years after their first period, as puberty slows down. However, the full process can take up to 4 or 5 years and fluctuations in weight can also play a part in breast size.

What should I do If I am unhappy with the size of my breasts?

If you are over the age of 18 and are unhappy with the size of your breasts and have been considering cosmetic surgery for a while, MYA would recommend starting to do some research into breast enlargements.

A breast enlargement is a common cosmetic surgery procedure, often referred to as a boob job, that enhances the size and shape of the breasts. A breast enlargement involves a specialist MYA surgeon inserting a breast implant through a small incision in the breast crease to achieve a fuller shape and a bigger bra size.

To research breast enlargements further, we recommend checking out the procedure page on the MYA website, joining the MYA Forum and speaking to past patients and following MYA on Instagram to keep updated with all the amazing patient before and after photos and patient stories that we share!

Common reasons people may consider a Breast Enlargement:

Women who consider breast enlargement surgery are typically seeking a larger cup size for one of the following reasons:

  • Their breasts did not fully develop to their desired size during puberty

  • They are suffering from asymmetry or tubular breasts

  • Simply to enhance what they already have for personal reasons

  • Following pregnancy

  • Following weight loss

  • To increase self-esteem and confidence
