Post by rane on Jul 8, 2014 3:49:06 GMT so in the process of making my stalagmites, and dragon's teeth stalagmites - my hot glue would stick to the wax paper i put down. It looked to peel off quite effortlessly in DMG's vids - so I'm not sure what I've done wrong that mine stick to my wax paper like it was cardboard? For the stalagmites it wasn't a big deal, cause the wax paper just tore off to be the bottom of the base - but when I do the Bridge/Tunnel for my cave tiles ala DMG's technique, I'm worried the hot glue i let drip down the sides will break off when i peel it.Is my hot glue maybe too hot, or should this not matter?I'm using basic wax paper you can find on a rollthanks for any insight

The problem is my glue gun is high temp only. again im using parchment, so it might be a little different, but i do believe parchment has a bit of wax aswell. | | Last Edit: Jul 8, 2014 6:02:02 GMT by darkslayer

It has a design that looks a bit like something out of "Arabian Nights. I wanted to cover up the detail on the back of it with sculpted flames and use this item as a portal to the elemental plane of fire. The flames will be painted like brass along with the rest of the item. However I was having problems sculpting the flames with modeling clay. It didn't look right using that medium for what I wanted. I think that the hot glue might.

Post by curufin on Jul 8, 2014 12:29:56 GMT I had the same problem. IIRC, DMG says "grease paper" in his videos. I assumed he meant wax paper, but had terrible problems with it. Then someone told me that grease paper is actually parchment paper. I bought some and have had zero problems since. I do all my hot gluing on a sheet of parchment paper now. | | It didn't work, but it gave us ideas, took us in new directions. Things we would've never thought of. -Miles Dyson

Post by thedmg on Jul 8, 2014 13:21:42 GMT It is also called "baking paper". I use it for lining oven trays when baking or cooking in the oven. It has a very waxy texture. In South Africa it is called grease paper. A viewer suggested "wax paper" prior to me using the "baking paper". I assumed they were the same thing, maybe not? | | YouTube: youtube.com/user/TheDMGinfoWebsite: www.thedmg.infoFacebook: www.facebook.com/thedmg.info

Post by rane on Jul 8, 2014 19:27:09 GMT I will try to find some parchment paper and see if that makes a difference. Maybe I just have poor quality wax paper, i just bought a roll quick from the dollar store - perhaps it's using poor quality wax or something. Thanks for all the suggestions! | | Last Edit: Jul 8, 2014 19:27:35 GMT by rane

Post by sgtslag on Jul 8, 2014 21:36:12 GMT In the States, it is called "Parchment Paper". It is found in the baking aisle of the grocery stores. It is more expensive than Wax Paper, but Hot Glue peels off of Parchment Paper easily; the Parchment Paper can be used many times before it is too wrinkled for further usage, so the price goes down the more you use each piece. Also, acrylic paints will peel off of it, when dry, so be forewarned if you use it as a painting surface, because the pieces of dried paint are quite thin, and easily blown about by your breath!I, too, had issues with Hot Glue sticking to Wax Paper, regardless of brand/quality. It melts through the wax, and bonds with the paper beneath it, creating a problem for us crafters... The Parchment Paper is amazing, however, and I keep a roll of my own, in my crafting room (my Wife got mad when I took her roll from the kitchen...). Post by SteamTitan on Jul 10, 2014 21:02:26 GMT Wax paper is different and the glue will stick to it. Your best bet is the baking parchment or if you can find it a sheet of silicon. It won't stick to it. I bought a baking mit and cut it open to get my silicon mat for working on | | Me: I lick the wall DM: What? Me: Perception includes taste right? Post by kdevalle95 on Feb 2, 2024 5:15:55 GMT Try using petroleum jelly. If you don't have that you can use cooking oil, coconut oil, nonstick cooking spray or something similar.
