Clownfish are omnivorous, eating both animals and plants, with their diet mainly consisting of small crustaceans, mollusks, plankton and algae. The specific food that clownfish consume depends largely on what is available where the fish lives.
Clownfish fall prey to a number of different predators, including sharks, eels and other fish. However, because the clownfish inhabit sea anemones that sting predators, they can many times avoid becoming prey by retreating to the sea anemone. Humans are the clownfish’s biggest overall threat, since they capture clownfish for the pet trade. Still, because the clownfish lays thousands of eggs at a time, its numbers are still high in 2015.
