What Do I Do If Roomba® Is Not Evacuating Debris Or Communicating ...
Maybe your like
If your Roomba is not evacuating debris into the Clean Base™ properly, or if your Roomba ceases to communicate with your Clean Base™, it could be due to any of several reasons. Please check the following guidance to resolve this situation:
- Ensure that one (1) end of the Clean Base™ is plugged into a working electrical outlet, and the other end is connected to the base.
- Remove the bag from the dock and check the LED Indicator. It should show a solid red light to indicate a missing bag. If this is not the case, the base is not receiving enough electrical current.
- Ensure the debris bin has an evacuation port, as indicated below
- Check the app to be sure Do Not Disturb Mode isn't on. If it is, please disable it
- Owners of certain robots who have purchased a Clean Base™ outside of initial purchase will need to use the bin with the evacuation port that came with the Clean Base™.
- The Empty Bin Button does not appear in the app.
If the evacuation doesn't happen when the robot docks or the "Empty Bin" button no longer shows in the iRobot® HOME App:
- Perform a robot reboot
- Remove the robot from the Clean Base™ and place it about eight (8) feet away
- Press the HOME button on the robot
- RESULT: The robot should dock onto the Clean Base™, and the Empty Bin button will appear in the app.
-
If the robot is still not communicating with the Clean Base™, flip the robot over, and use a can of compressed air to clean out the inside area of the bumper where dust may be built up, then retest.
If the issue persists, check the following:
The Lid and Bag
- Ensure the lid on top of the Clean Base™ is properly sealed and the bag is properly installed. If the lid is open, the Clean Base™ assumes the bag is not installed properly and it will not allow the robot to evacuate. NOTE: The LED on the front of the Clean Base will appear solid red.
- Lift up the lid on the top of the canister to open, pull up on the plastic card leading to the plastic card leading to the vacuum port, and lift up to pull the bag out of the canister NOTE: This will enclose the bag so no additional dust or debris can get out.
- If the bag is not completely full:
- Shake it a few times to bring the debris to the bottom of the bag.
- Reinstall the bag into the canister.
- If the bag is completely full, discard and replace it.
- Press down on the lid, making sure the lid is firmly closed.
- With the robot on the Clean Base™ press the HOME button (press HOME twice if the robot is not awake). RESULT: The vacuum motor in the Clean Base™ should activate. If the motor does not activate after pressing the HOME button, continue with the next steps.
Charging Contacts and Communication Window
- Clean the charging contacts on the robot and the Clean Base™, and then wipe the docking sensor window on the Clean Base™ with a clean, dry microfiber or soft cotton cloth.
- Perform bumper maintenance as needed. Wiping the front of the bumper with a lightly dampened melamine foam should clear away any debris. NOTE: Do not spray cleaning solution directly onto sensors or into sensor openings.
-
If your i Series Roomba® is having problem communicating with its Clean Base, it's possible that the inside bumper windows are dirty and need to be cleaned.
Try blowing compressed air or "canned air" in the area demonstrated in the photo included with this article. This can clear debris and allow the robot and Clean Base to communicate again. If you perform this step and the robot still can't communicate with the Clean Base, please contact us.
- If you are attempting to evacuate the bin, open the iRobot® HOME App and press the "Empty Bin" button, which should activate the Clean Base™.
- If pressing the "Empty Bin" button on the app does not activate the Clean Base™, reboot your robot by pressing and holding the CLEAN button for up to 20 seconds. You should do so until the light ring indicator turns off, at which point you can release. The light ring indicator will light up when you do so, and you will hear a tone to confirm a successful reboot.
- Make sure the plug is securely plugged into the back of the Clean Base™. If the plug becomes detached, we suggest loosening the cable around the cord wrap on the rear side of the Clean Base™, which will eliminate tension.
- If the plug is secure in the base, but issues persist, first remove the battery from your robot, and then let it sit for one (1) minute. At this point, you should place the battery back into your robot, place your robot back onto the Clean Base™, and let it boot up.
Potential Clog in the Clean Base™
If the Clean Base™ senses a clog, the LED on the front will flash red. When this happens, perform the following steps:
- Remove the robot from the Clean Base™, then push down the canister lid to ensure it's firmly sealed.
- Remove any debris from the debris evacuation port on the bottom of the Clean Base.
- Unplug the Clean Base™ Charging Station + Automatic Dirt Disposal from the wall.
- Clean the Clean Base™ debris evacuation tubing on the bottom, and then remove any debris.
- Once the clog has been removed and the Red LED is no longer blinking, place the Clean Base™ upright, place the robot onto the Clean Base™, and press the HOME button. RESULT: The vacuum motor in the Clean Base™ should now activate.
