Mantis, they eat deathworm horns to be tamed, but can they eat spoiled meat like most other insectoids to sate hunger once tamed? < > Showing 1-8 of 8 comments Solo Leveling View Profile View Posts 14 Jul, 2017 @ 5:43am Found this thread being that I just tamed a Mantis and was looking to find the answer of what they eat.Found out what they eat by just messing around testing the damage with a sword. Turns out that its Raw Fish Meat, not sure if you found this out by now being that you posted this question back in 9/17/16.If you have not then this will help you out. Before bringing his food down,http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=975623672 After it ate the Raw Fish Meat.http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=975623689 #1 Dragon View Profile View Posts 14 Jul, 2017 @ 5:57am Think they eat meat in general. Fish meat offers the lowest amount of food so it gets eaten faster. I bet it you wait long enough it will eat prime meat. #2 =Sarsante= View Profile View Posts 14 Jul, 2017 @ 6:12am

I can be wrong but I think every dino eats the low food stuff first. I read that somewhere, could be only for through tho. #3 FreesiaJasmine View Profile View Posts 14 Jul, 2017 @ 1:41pm The reason they eat the lowest is simple. Their food drops little by little. They check to see if anything in their trough meets how hungry they are. If so they eat it. If not they check again later. So if you have fish and steak, they'll go from "not hungry" to "just hungry enough to eat fish but not steak" and then eat the fish, then back to "not hungry", and so on. They never get to where they're hungry enough to eat steak until they run out of fish.Thankfully when they're being tamed they do a little more logic -- they won't eat until hungry enough to eat the *most* filling thing in their inventory. So it's basically the reverse. #4 Elder Phoenix View Profile View Posts 3 Sep, 2017 @ 2:37pm I did some testing an determined that they will eat spoiled meat. First I tried just force feeding a tamed mantis some and it restored food, so I then parked her near my "insect trought" (for scorps, arthro and dung beetles) after removing all her food and running her around to lower stamina. Once she was in range, she began scarfing down the spoiled meat (the only thing in that trough) and it was restoring a fair bit of food (I think 50 per, but I wasn't looking that closely) #5 Elder Phoenix View Profile View Posts 3 Sep, 2017 @ 2:41pm

Actually, they are set to ALWAYS choose the lowest value food first, no matter how hungry they are. This is easily testable by letting a predator get hungry and then placing a prime and regular meat in their inventory quickly. It will scarf down any and all regular raw meat until it runs out before ever touching the prime, even though the prime would restore the hunger faster. This was an intentional change in the AI made by the developers ages ago.
