MarinesMustang M Whilst searching for the setup I want to do to finish my exhaust I've seen videos saying they've "cammed" their Mustang. I know this has something to do with the camshaft, but what does that exactly mean? Also, why does it sound so much better? Finally how much does it cost to do? #1 · Apr 30, 2013 (Edited by Moderator) Whilst searching for the setup I want to do to finish my exhaust I've seen videos saying they've "cammed" their Mustang. Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Apr 30, 2013 Cam better sound better power. About $1000 for a complete job #3 · Apr 30, 2013 Definitely a throatier sound and a power gain. I've ready anywhere from $1000-$1500 job. #4 · Apr 30, 2013 (Edited by Moderator) HowStuffWorks "How Camshafts Work" Shorter (but not as awesome) version: How Does a Camshaft Work? | eHow.com [youtube link no longer valid] #5 · May 3, 2013 "Cammed" means that they put in a different camshaft. The sound changes because the cam is the heart of the engine. It dictates how much air is taken in and put out and for how long, to put it bluntly. There are a couple people in the process of swapping now, and several that have already swapped. If you do the work yourself I couldn't see it costing more than $500 to $700, but then you will have to get it dyno tuned so its more efficient, which costs some money. #6 · May 3, 2013 Pretty sure it adjusts powerband as well (or...where you make power better). The noise alone is worth it :drool #7 · May 4, 2013 How much more power will it actually get me by doing the swap. #8 · May 4, 2013 With a tune probably 15-25 HP.... just guessing here #9 · May 4, 2013 Well, depending on what type of cam you go for.. And what application you want a cam for will determine what cam you would get. If you are staying N/A there have been plenty of people make 215+ rwhp with the comp cams 218/226 max strip & street cam and the SSMS lumpy cam. Also if you were to do just a cam swap you would need new retainers, valve springs, gaskets, tune, etc. #10 · May 5, 2013 If you ever decide to do a cam swap hmu. I have a great sounding cam and matching pushrods for sale for a deal. #11 · May 6, 2013 Green what are the specs on that Cam? Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App Insert Quotes Post Reply
