What does CNG stand for and why is it considered to be a better fuel than petrol?Answer
Verified543.6k+ viewsHint: Compressed Natural Gas is a non-toxic and eco-friendly gas used as an alternative to petrol. It has a high ignition temperature and burns without producing soot and smoke. It does not contaminate groundwater.Complete answer: Nowadays, CNG is advised to use in commercial and non-commercial vehicles instead of LPG. CNG stands for compressed natural gas. It is produced by compression of natural gas, that is, methane to less than one percent of its volume.Since it is made of natural gas, therefore the amount of smoke and soot is produced in a very low amount during the burning of fuel. This reduces the risk of respiratory and a few other diseases. That is why CNG is one of the cleanest burning fuels. It does not harm the environment as much as gasoline and reduces carbon monoxide emissions up to 90 percent. There is no residue formation while burning of CNG and thus it does not damage the vehicle’s machinery parts. Moreover, it produces energy in greater amounts as compared to other fuels like kerosene, etc. Also, CNG has a high ignition temperature, low flammability range, and lighter than air. This reduces the risk of fire if a leak happens. While petrol is heavier than air and it leads to dangerous fire hazards.Hence, CNG is considered to be better than fuel.Note: CNG is sometimes confused as liquified natural gas (LNG) as they both are derived from natural gas and can be stored in cylindrical tanks. But the difference between the two is that CNG can be stored at high pressure and ambient temperature while LNG is stored at low temperature and ambient pressure. So, CNG is transported over long distances in the form of LNG and at the end, LNG is converted to CNG.Recently Updated PagesBasicity of sulphurous acid and sulphuric acid are
