You will most likely run into the “cold-pressed” label when it comes to fruit juices and oil. What makes cold-pressed products a healthier option?
1 Fruit and vegetable juices are often traditionally extracted by using heat, friction, speed, and pressure from fast-spinning juicer blades. All of these factors lead to many nutrients lost in the process (from the heat!), and a loss of quality in freshness (oxidation is sped up, too). The same goes for traditionally extracted oil: heat is used to break down seeds and nuts to extract their oils easier.
2 The cold-press process is very different: slow but strong pressure is added onto fruits (for juices) or seeds (for oil), after gently grinding them to break them down, to extract as much juice or oil as possible.
3 Because there is no heat and minimal friction involved in the cold-press process, flavor and nutritional quality are saved! Juices will be raw, very fresh, and actually good for you, while oils will be more aromatic, flavorful, and nutritious.
