What does JROTC do/not do?

What can JROTC do for me: The JROTC program is designed to teach Cadets the value of Citizenship, leadership development, service to the Community, Personal Responsibility and learn about the freedoms our US Military has provided. As the Cadet becomes more engaged in JROTC, they will gain a sense of accomplishment, self-esteem and learn the values of positive teamwork, live a drug free life, become physically fit and be positive role model not only in school, but within our wonderful Albemarle community.

Cadets can participate in 1st semester before school extra-curricular activities such as Color Guard Team, Raider Team and Team Building. See 1SG David Wilcox or student Chain of Command for details.

What JROTC doesn't do: Cadets are not required/drafted/forced/coerced to join the Military. This is impossible to do. JROTC Instructors are not Military Recruiters. We can't force anyone to enlist; this takes months of commitment that only a qualified Military Recruiter can guide you through. Cadets cannot be drafted into any Military service. The draft ended 26 January 1973.

Cadets are not in boot camp or basic training. JROTC Instructors are professionals that have a combined total of over 45 years of active leadership service.

If a Cadet want to enlist in the Military; the Cadet may be promoted and making up to $300.00 more per month that someone that doesn't take JROTC. This will depend on the branch of service chosen and the number of years spent in JROTC. We work with all five branches: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.

ROTC Scholarships are available by taking JROTC in High School if you qualify. The University of Virginia Army and Air Force recruiting officer will instruct cadets what the process is to receive a scholarship for UVA/Liberty University.

Air Force ROTC: Captain Tim Matthew, UVA Email: [email protected] Liberty Email: [email protected]

Cadets can be nominated by the Senior Army Instructor (SAI) to the United States Military Academy or West Point. You must be a member of JROTC to receive this recommendation.
